My friends and I wanted to be in the mardi gras parade. My friend Jolene and went down to the beauty school and got beehive hairdo's done for 5$. Our hair was so tall we couldnt fit in the car without lying down. We went down to the basement of the oakland coliseum during the set break. There was a bunch of freaks and characters mulling around. A dude from Grateful Dead productions started picking out who would be in the parade. We were chosen. We got to dance in the parade with our beehive hairdos. The photo is a picture of myself (redhair), Jolene (blonde), and my awesome friend eyeball.

    just seeing this post!
too funny... yes, i was the one that posted in another forum that i had built the float (with help from barsotti's crew and volunteers, of course). i did find a bit of very brief and dark footage on youtube, but the allure of mr. bones draws the cameraperson away from the berlin wall float pretty quickly! we're in the shot about 3:12- 3:17 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLe-MNEnF3E so sorry to hear that a box knocked someone out...those things were very, very light. i recall when i had the idea that i suggested styrofoam, but the cheapest alternative was painted cardboard. what a blast that was. the furthur phil 70th birthday show last friday reminded me again of this memory and i thought i'd search over here one more time. peace! jbp big microscope: live music and liberal rants

    The Wall Came Down...
We were in the second row of seats on Phil's side, way up towards the front. When the boxes representing the bricks in the wall were being tossed off the float, one of the boxes hit a dude sitting in the front row and knocked him out cold!! It must have been the very corner of the box that hit him because they were just empty orange boxes or whatever. They took him out and as far as I know he's alright. Most everybody had a great time, it was quite a PARTY. We took a guy with us, and it was his first show! He said something like: "Now I know why you guys go to these things." He came back for many more shows...

And down came the Berlin Wall.... thanks in part to my help...
One of my favorite shows of all time... as I was picked to be Uncle Sam on the Berlin Wall float. I, in my blue tie-dyed pants, White Dinner Jacket, Formal shirt with holographic tie, US Blues tall top hat, glow in the dark Skull mask with holographic eyes, black shroud hair.... throwing "chunks" of the grafetti-strewn Berlin Wall into the crowd, with the uniformed Comrade on the opposite side.... Noticed 2 posts today in the Forum "In Search Of Stuff" where one made claim to creating the float, and where another said he had a video of the parade from the sound board.... I do hope, as I've been searching for so very long.... Relix, Herb Greene, GDP, BGP, etc. to relive this event here for all to enjoy !!!! Will post something as soon as I can get it Cheers !!! and let the good times roll.... "one way or another"-New Speedway Boogie.... Schultzie
