Pencil Sketch of Jerry
I aquired this poster size pencil sketch of jerry and was wondering if anybody can tell me anything about it. The artist is L.Fraser with an auction sticker on the back.
I used to own one of these. Some faux mother fuckin' Deadhead stole it !! Bought it for $% at a Dead show in Irvine,Ca in the 80's ! Now,I've found a place in Bishop,Ca that was selling them @ a Radio Shack of all places.Around $40 !
It's hard to see; if you retake a few pictures, facing forward & close-up, I would be able to give you my opinion. From this angle, I can't judge proportion.
really? you must be fooling with us as I've never seen an item amiss in an RS ever...
I met this guy at Alpine Valley, WI. It was in the early 80's. He had a bunch of different sketches and I showed my brother this. He bought it for $5.00 and had to have the pencil smudges cleaned up and sealed, because it was obviously recently drawn. It is 19" x 25". My brother later gifted me the piece.
I was a close personal friend of the artist L Fraser in the 90's. Larry is what the L stands for. L Fraser passed on around 17 years ago. He was a great guitarist and songwriter also. He shared the stage with Rick Danko several times, and had a knack for sometimes getting in the "inner circles" of some cool people. L and I were actually in several bands together, and it was always a fun time. He also had a knack with designing album covers and flyers for local shows. He was fond of playing covers of people like Bob Dylan, Marshall Tucker Band, JGB, and of course the Dead. My vote for most missed guitarist in my life.
The interesting thing about this pencil sketch is that only certain people can see the energy that he drew into it. L gave me a copy of the picture in the mid 90's but darn it- I left it at a friend's house that I had been living with. Oops!!
Miss ya L.
