Grateful Dead

Just like your favorite jam, things are going to get a bit funky on over the next week or so. Community accounts will be temporarily closed October 16th-17th and may be under further maintenance through October 22nd. But rest assured, we will be back up and better than ever shortly thereafter. Stay tuned! Thanks!

Grateful Dead Hour by David Gans

Week of May 9, 2016

First of three parts featuring a 1975 interview with Jerry Garcia by Peter Simon.

Peter Simon is a photographer, author, and music producer based on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. I met him in Jamaica in November 1982, and he later invited me to collaborate with him on the book Playing in the Band: An Oral and Visual Portrait of the Grateful Dead.

Peter interviewed Jerry Garcia in Marin County in the spring of 1975, while the Dead were off the road but still working on many projects. Here’s an article about the interview from the Vineyard Gazette.

Peter’s web site includes links to a huge collection of photographs - of musicians, the Vineyard, major events, and all kinds of other stuff. Well worth a look!
