Grateful Dead Hour no. 962
By David Gans
Week of February 26, 2007
First of a three-parter featuring the second set of New Year's Eve 1990.
Around the time I was putting this show together, I spoke with guitarist Bob Weir about the 1976 New Year's Eve CD that was about to come out, and Bob told me a great story about an encounter with Bill Graham at the 1990 show. Graham was, of course, the legendary San Francisco concert promoter who put on a wild pageant at midnight every New Year's Eve from 1976 until 1990. You'll also hear a bit of the radio broadcast, including the voices of hosts Ken Nordine (who celebrated his 90th birthday this week - happy birthday, Ken!), Bari Scott, Jack Ellis, and me.
Oh, and the wonderful Branford Marsalis sits in with the Dead for pretty much the whole second set.
Enjoy!

Thanks - great show. Interesting mix - one of the few where Bobby's guitar is relatively easy to pick out. Cheers, keep up the great work!
Great Show!!
The excitement is palpable here, makes me wanna be there.
Thanks once again DG!
