March 1 - March 7, 2013

Every Friday we'll be sending you off with a Jam Of The Week, hand-picked and delivered by tape archivist David Lemieux. Listen to it on the weekend. Listen to it at work. Listen to it all day long...but make sure you tune in or you'll miss out because these little nuggets will stream for ONE WEEK ONLY!
But I've gotta say, I still remember the first time I heard that 6/21 show. I was at James Olness's house, and after what seemed like hours of the best jamming ever, he said, "And hey, this is still Playing in the Band!"
I'm still sorry to have missed those shows. Jay Blakesberg, I think, posted a photo of the crowd scene to Facebook a while back.
2nd that emotion -- is it in the vault or do sources exist?
It was a Sunday. They came onstage and Bobby said, "I guess we forgot something last night" and they opened with Saturday Night.
your dream comes true!!!
Yes Spacebro, I would love a release of this. One of my favorites in the RT series is the Spectrum '82 show (and the Terrapin on that is one of the finest examples of Jerry singing, in terms of phrasing, I've ever heard). I love this underrated year - lots of greasy Brent organ up in the mix, Jerry's voice is not in '83-86 frog mode yet, lots of quicksilver playing. Great year for PITB.
How about a Raven/Earthquake Space box? But since there was a fairly recent '82 release, I'd also love something from '80-81.
I had a dream a while back, I was flying over a funky looking high school auditorium, there were wolves howling, the sun was shining even though it was night. And lo! On the roof of the auditorium in glowing letters it read: "New Box Set - Midnight Sun: The Grateful Dead in Alaska, June 19-21 1980."
That just made my morning. Spring in N.Fl. and" the birds are singin' ".Thanks
Davis 82? it was a bit off except for the Scarlet/Fire.
This show was way off of my radar, and it's amazing! First time hearing it. Perfect example of how the best stuff wasn't only performed before the '80s. This one NEEDS to be released...someday...
Feels like a long time to May for the next Dave's Picks...

Considering how many people speak highly of these shows, the fact they haven't been featured even once on the Taper's Section doesn't bode well for the existence of the tapes in the vault. God, I hope I'm wrong. 1980 Grateful Dead is one of my favorite vintages.
