The Mickey Hart Collection, a 25-album series from the legendary Grateful Dead drummer and non-profit label Smithsonian Folkways, is out today - and to celebrate, 10 songs are available for free download from mickeyhart.net/download and folkways.si.edu.
The collection includes music from virtually every corner of the globe and has been made digitally available for the first time by Smithsonian Folkways.
The Mickey Hart Collection is drawn from The World, a series Hart curated that incorporates his solo projects, other artists’ productions, and re-releases of out-of-print titles. Six of the 25 albums form the “Endangered Music Project,” a collaboration between Mickey Hart and the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, which presents recordings from musical traditions at risk.
