Why would you buy a 1 day pass when you can go for the whole weekend plus camping for around $125. This is the best deal of any Festival this summer, hands down!!

We had internet on Friday & none thereafter. Shows were great, all the stages had various music @ different times. Although we missed the real late shows (dang it!) due to exhaustion. BUT we did get the early shows w/ Phil's 2 sons (who we wanted to hear again) Larry Campbell & Theresa Williams are awesome & we heard Hot Tuna (YAY!) Jack did some quick little dance & Jorma made fun of him calling him "Twinkle-Toes"......the parts of the scene that we saw seemed pretty cool-alot of RV dry camping & more tents than the eye could see......managed to get video when Furthur played "Cosmic Charlie" & the moon was rising in the background.........Weather: was raining Thurs @ 6ish when we got there, cleared up the next day & hot on Sunday. Everyone I ran into seemed to be having fun

But did Furthur pull off the 6 whole albums? How was that? Was it cool to hear or kind of weird or both? "Lazy lightning you say you never strike the same place. I want a double dose in any case ... You got to hear my supplication. Got to hear me now. A little bolt of inspiration"

Hey guys just woke up from my 17 hour recovery sleep. Before I start my review I wanted to say how much I appreciate and love Phil and Bob, the band, the furthur/mountain aire staff, Height Asbury Medical (Rock Med) and everyone involved it was so perfect in every way. I did not no what to expect when we were rolling to the venue, just how many people would show. We got there early on Friday and then I realized there were going to be very busy. They had already opened up the gates because there were so many people that showed up friday morning they would have to close the road in. We got there around 11 and the place was already getting full. WOW. We rolled in found a great spot on the hill with some huge shade trees set up. Everyone around us were so great. Walks of all life's from 2 years old to 77, everyone was extremely happy to be there (of course). The Music: The first night was going to be a "sound check" but is was more like a full blown set with the band coming to play and play hard they did. I am sorry I dont have a set list I am still foggy from the trip and lost my list. Day two was super fun we saw plenty of good music but conserved most of my energy for 3 sets of furthur. The furthur stage had such a cool backdrop, lighting bolts with a steal your face in the center that they used many years on tour back in the 70's and 80's. All three album sets were played in full and the stand out for me was Attics, and every note of Anthem. Bobby and Phil are really really on it! Day Three: well what more can you ask for? Electric hot tuna was amazing the scene was more crowed from the day passes. And again I conserved my energy for the main act. My heros Phil Lesh and Bob Weir. For me this was a very magical show and I saw songs that a 38 year old head would only dream of. They played all three albums to there fullest. When they played the actual song Blues for Allah I was completely blown away. It sounded so good words cannot do it anything. And then the song was over along with the first set album and everyone knew we were in for a very magical evening with two more Album sets to go. Aoxomoxa same deal from start to finish so good. After that set it was just a dream for me to all of these songs and realizing we still have one more to go. The third set was very special magical and all of the bells and whistles one would expect from this amazing experience. They brought on Teresa Williams for Sunrise and she was sooo good for this song. She was emotional with tears in hear eyes and belted it out. And then here comes, the Terrapin Station Medley from start to finish. If there was a roof it would have been blown off. I was standing 8 people in Phil side and as I looked up the hill behind me all I could see were smiles all the way up the hill. Everyone had connected the magic was flowing and the band was LIVE!!!! They ended it with Love Is Real Not Fade Away and boy isn't that true. So show had ended the magic rolled its way to the camping and we partied until dawn. I want to end my review they way I started, with the love I have for Phil and Bob. They are so awesome to bring this magic to the people and as Phil said during his last donor rap What a nice family picnic!!!!!!!!!

...the shows were great. The band played with intensity and the usual virtuosity and get tighter with every show they play. I thought Joe Russo was driving fantastic and Chimenti is truly a keyboard master. Larry Campbell on fiddle added to the mix and the back ups. I'm a Hot Tuna fan and dug their set too. For this oldtimer the thing that really impressed me outside of the wonderful long shows and the musical alchemy trip, was the scene, the vibe and the crowd. Deadheads, young and old continue to keep it sooo cool. They are the best fans/people in the world. My wife and I had as much fun grooving on the great vibes people put out. It was as good as it gets and reminded me of a bygone era that doesn't really seem bygone.. and that just keeps my faith intact. It was also very cool to see Zane Kesey and the new Bus on site. Phil doing Q and A's was fun too and the folks that brought their kids made it all the better. My two daughters ages 36 and 41 also attended with their husbands. May the Grateful Dead and Prankster family grow strong and prosper and may this new generation (40 year olds and younger) continue to take it furthur...you all just rock and keep the bus rolling on. Nice going. I'm very impressed and still feel great. Thanks again. P.S. I did see a couple of freakouts and bummers which is sad but always bound to happen. I saw one poor girl being carried out screaming. I'm not sure if she was freaking out or just hated the music. So.. remember kids...Trip Responsibly. It's not a gut check or a competition to see how fucked up you can get. It's supposed to be a consciousness raising thing...and also remember...Once you get the message, you can hang up the phone. Just ask any Wharf Rat. Onward, through the fog... All love to all that you love.

First the good news: the music was fabulous. The sound check was really nice and the late night all star jam was great. So many people playing together! For me the high-light was Jorma and Jack playing with Bobby, and finishing off the Friday evening in a fine fashion. Saturday and Sunday were also really good, with my favorite set of the weekend being Hot Tuna (I've been listening to Jack and Jorma since 1977, and the Dead only since 1982, so I'm a pretty big Hot Tuna head). My favorite set was the Friday night sound check. It'll probably show up on the internet archive soon. The art display was really great, also. We had a really good time inside the show. Now for the bad news: ridiculous quantity of Sheriffs present, a select few of whom used an excessive amount of brutality in carrying out their duties. We were actually witness to people who were targeted by police because they appeared to be high, who then reacted badly, giving the cops an excuse to try to arrest them and beat them in the process. I am not talking about people being caught in a criminal act, but people just being high and a bit out of it. For a choice bit of slanted reporting everybody should check out this web site:http://thepinetree.net/index.php?module=announce&ANN_user_op=view&ANN_i…. It's nice to know what people really think of us, and that of course lies are always expedient if you want to color an event to your advantage. I would like to know who was in charge of running this event, because they did the worst job I've ever seen, and I work security and parking at many Northern California events. It was the biggest amateur hour I've ever seen by event staff. As I half expected would happen, everything fell apart logistically as soon as masses of people started arriving, early, before the noon check in. Anyone at all, with or without a ticket was let into the initial lot. There was not management of the traffic or parking, with no instructions given to the attendees about proceedure or anything like that. Naturally, under those conditions chaos quickly ensued, and in order to handle a situation the parking/security staff was completely unprepared to deal with, and to get people in smoothly, everyone was let into the campground, whether you had a ticket or not. Honestly, at first I didn't care: share and share alike is my motto. But after 3 carloads of ticketless, drug-dealing tweekers settled in next to us for an all-weekend fight fest of nasty, loud bickering and whining and fighting, I began to think: this really sucks. There were tons of ticketless youth in the camping area, many of them brought their dogs, and it was obvious none of them were prepared to buy their way in, or even be nice to hang around, much less have to camp next to for three day. I think the police brutality and heavy handedness would have been a lot less if these people, who are users, not contributors, had been kept out of the camping areas. Some of these shit-kicking youth are very belligerent about their perceived right to a free everything, and they feel they can do what they like with impunity. Regardless, it's too late for my feelings regarding the fascist police there, and it'll be a cold day in hell before I ever go to Calaveras County again. Anytime there is a show at any County Fair Grounds, I expect somewhat of a police presence, but I'm proud to say that where I'm from here in NorCal, the cops are human, gentlemen, and appreciate us mellow hippies, and the money we bring into their community. For what it's worth, I only saw the youth being targeted, maybe there is some kind of vendetta, or maybe they think us old folks have all gone to the devil, and are beyond saving. I will say frankly that I don't at all like the attitude of some of the nastier elements that frequent the lot, not intending to enjoy music or each other at all, but just to exploit the scene for their own ends. And my boyfriend stepped in dog shit while we were loading the car, to boot. Love the boys, love the band, love the music, love the Deadheads and all my friends, known and unknown; but who was in charge of this logistical fiasco, I'd love to know. Peace.

When event organizers get blind-sided and then overwhelmed by GD crowds. Any place in California especially should know how to handle a GD crowd. How long have the GD and their offshoot bands been playing in Cali?? Come on! The crowd is huge, a large chunk of them are ticketless and they show up early even a day early. If you aren't ready for that phenomenon, there is going to be big trouble. "Lazy lightning you say you never strike the same place. I want a double dose in any case ... Fantastic Music, so much music it was difficult to decide where to be when. Phil and Graham playing together with Mr. Campell smokin. Common Rotation super kind vibe. Super Thanks to Wavy Gravy for keeping my kids entertained in the kids tent. What a life saver. Mr. Gravy is so kid natural, he donated soooo much time for the kids via bingo, blackout, parade and such. My wife and I are very thankfull to All the Grateful Dead Folks for organizing a great Family Friendly Festival. Camping Scene was Crustier then ever. Had to brave the Crossroads and Crusy Corners to take a piss with my kids during which my 5 and 8 year old and I were offered molly, gus, brownies and so on. I wanted my 3 boys to experience some of the magic of years past. Fortunately,The Kindness of the Dead Family Rings True Everytime. Wish there wasnt so much baggage. I have come to the conclusion Dreads means nothing. We also at times did some babysitting for several youngens with no parents. This bothered Mama quite a bit. Though, The many pockets of kindess super duper everytime. O.K. so we made the 20 hour round trip drive with 3 boys, waded through the crusties, and bent out ears to here the tune over many talkers, who talks during half the show? Furthur will be back to the Northwest Right? Phil said so, Cant wait.
