FREE FREE FREEbut not to be This time the show will be $19.95 June 7, 2011 at 6pm pacific daylight time A good investment as the previous flight was one for the ages, and the sound was beyond anything I have heard over the web before. The Sky Was Yellow And The Sun Was Blue People Stopping Strangers Just To Shake Their Hand.

Paul Greatest idea for a musical presentation! It doesn't beat going to a live concert but it allows you to see the show without worrying about the show being sold out!!!

This is how I'm looking at it -- There are those of us who never get to see this band or any of the Dead-related bands unless we want to travel long distances. Now we have a chance. Yeah you won't get the full concert experience, but you'll get a view as good as a front row seat. I plan to view it on my big screen in my living room. I plan to have ALL the concert necessities (wink, wink). I'm clearing out some dancing space on the living room floor and it'll be next best thing to being there!

My feeling is that $19.95 is a little expensive to view streaming show as you're not quite there. Great idea though and appreciate that it has to cost something, but I really don't feel many people will sign up for this at this price. Something like $9.95 would be more successful, what do you think?

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I think this is a good way for people to see the show that otherwise would not be able to see it. On the other hand, I feel that $19.95 is too much. They could potentially sell 200,000 streams - and this is a market test, remember. If the response is that high you can bet the next one will be higher. Just look at PPV games and other big events. They charge whatever people will pay. Another thing I think is wrong is that Furthur are trying to sell out 2 shows just 3 days earlier at the Shoreline. There are still a lot of tickets left. I have a feeling this will undercut sales to these shows for people on the fence about going to the Shoreline shows. Low ticket sales for Shoreline in turn will further solidify Furthur ignoring the West Coast fans.

I wouldn't mind the $20 if this was a show we could and keep for later viewing pleasure?! Think it's just a one time stream. : (Not many details on the TRI site. I believe My Morning Jacket is having a live webcast this coming week for FREE. http://www.mymorningjacket.com/circuital/unstaged/faq.html Sure Phish may also be streaming some live free video these days as well?? $20 seems steep for one time viewing. I like the idea about being able to download for later use, that's more like it and I'd pay the price for something like that. For me is another issue with the time zone I live 8hrs ahead 'summer time' West Cost Time, so that would mean watching at 3 in the morning ~ ouch! on a week night having to go to work the next day ~ coz you gotta 'keep your day job' ~

Broadcast, I think that Bob made some mention about how expensive the studio is. Obviously it's there to make money, not just to provide us all with free content. And I did love the free content he provided that night. Having said that, I'd probably prefer to pay my 20 bucks for a Furthur show download that I can enjoy repeatedly and at my leisure than a one-time "TV event." Moot point though: the combination of the West Coast start time and it being a work night (I get up at 4:30 am Eastern time) pretty much settles the "to pay or not to pay" question for me.

It's likely a bargain for some considering the number of people I see who pay full ticket prices for a show and then seem to spend the show watching it on their smartphone screens...

I must say that all us Dead Heads in the U.S. Virgin Islands are pumped for the Furthur/TRI show tonight. We have the Man Cave all set with flat screen, hookah, lava lamp, and plenty of chocolate party favors.

It's 8:09 here, about 30 miles from Mt. Tam. The sound was great but I could never get a video feed for more than a few seconds. I achieved that buy hitting the back button and clicking on the calendar, then watch now. Last time I tried that instead of "watch now" I got "purchase". My purchases file was empty. Now I don't even have the great audio, and the sound was excellent. At least I'm not frustrated about not being able to see it anymore? Oh, and the invoice, order #8957 is in my inbox so I know the boys got there money okay. I was worried they might not have that part right. I would have had a hard time sleeping if I didn't think they had gotten their $19.95 from me for the experiment. Thank God I didn't invite 10 friends over and charge them $10 a head like some fool suggested. I'd probably be ridin' a rail about now

How not unusual. It seems that Deadheads (or profiteers who see an opportunity) can set up a live feed with a pass code that works just fine from the inside of a Furthur venue but Bob can't get the right techies to do it from his own studio... If true, how sad. Hope y'all get your $20 back and a free ticket on the West Coast swing. ~ Like I told you, what I said ~

Curious....I got on just before 7pm, (Mt. Tam time) my invoice # was 8957. Does that mean there were less than 9000 Deadheads trying to view this? I was checking comments on the twitter and facebook feed. Seemed like there was more problematic commentary on twitter. Facebook feed was more how great it all was. And I was listening thinking how good it sounded(and that was just with my Apple earbuds) and pulling my hair out cuz I couldn't see it...

Well worth it! The technical problems were a bit of a bummer but I'm sure they will work those bugs out. I would have paid $20 for the Unbroken Chain and full Terrapin suite alone! I'm ready to do this every Friday night. That Terrapin was amazingly good. Nice job guys!

I didn't sign up for the broadcast; glad I didn't if people had that much difficulty. HOWEVER, I will jump in if they do it again. Being on a Tuesday night didn't entice me to purchase either. forgive my ignorance...was this purely in a studio, or was there an audience in the studio? just wondering...

I think there was a small audience in the studio watching. The stage in the studio was set up just like a typical Furthur concert. The HD video and sound was quite amazing. We did experience some buffering (which I blame my Virgin Islands internet provider) but never for more than a few seconds. I thought Phil's bass could have been a little bit louder. His voice on Unbroken Chain was stellar! Jeff continued to blow me away on his keyboards which he switched often through out the show.

I did opt for the webcast even though I thought it was too much - mostly because Shoreline was such a fiasco for me. However, It took until the end of BEW to get to the site and get logged in and I started at 5:45 - even then, the video came and went. It sounded and looked great while it worked but I still want a refund as this was not what it should have been. I sent TRI an email at 6:30 and also called them and left a message. I have a feeling they are going to be giving lots of refunds. I would say that refunds are in order for the people that were basically locked out of this performance until well into the show. It was frustrating at best for me and after f*cking around trying to get connected to TRI for 50 mins, I wasn't much in the mood for the show.

I thought $19.95 was a reasonable price. It would be nice if you could access the show after the broadcast, or possibly get a discount on any CDs/DVDs that may be released if you purchased a ticket as additional incentive. I was on the east coast and have a fairly standard cable connection and experienced almost no interruptions. I did get kicked twice, but I was able to log right back in and continue with the stream. Audio/video was synced throughout the night. One suggestion for the band - hide your set lists! Its easy to read those pieces of paper when watching an HD stream... I noticed that the twitter feeds had a few people complaining. Looked like lots of people with iPhones & iPads (I am in no way trying to start a PC war here). Some people were trying to sync their iPad to apple TV and having problems. My suggestion in the future would be to use a wired device. Wireless connections have improved but probably are not going to be reliable when streaming HD. If you were using your phone on a 3G/4G network, well I wouldn't expect too much. To keep up with the stream, it amounts to about 1.2 GBs of data you need to download an hour. Other people were saying they could get in and listen, but no video. Flash player was being used to broadcast the stream. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but I thought Apple banned flash from their iOS devices? Make sure whatever device you are using has strong flash player support in the future. I am looking forward to more shows like this. No parking, no security, no beer line, no bathroom line. I was on stage in my pajamas doing whatever the hell I wanted to do at the time. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this happen. As this is a new experiment, I expected some technical glitches along the way (I work as a software developer) but it exceeded my expectations. This is a learning experience for everyone so give them time to work out the kinks.

Maybe Furthur could issue a consolation prize for those of us that were there/but weren't I think it would be totally cool to have a t-shirt that said on the front " I went to the Tri Experiment", and on the back said "All I got was this t-shirt". cpjalbert, thanks for the advice. I was wireless on my MacBook Pro. Maybe that was an issue. Will check on the Flash Player thing. I thought I was okay with that. Would like one of those t-shirts :-)

I was also on my MacBook Pro on WiFi and I had no issues once I connected - it took me 40 minutes to get to the site and signed in. For the rest of the show it sounded and looked great. As a web professional, I know this issue was related to overwhelmed servers rather than my internet connection or my wireless. I think they will make this right and I know they are figuring out how to compensate the fans for this show as we speak. I think either a free webcast or getting this show to view again just for people that purchased or even getting it on disc are possibilities. In reality, it has to be something that does not cost them a lot to make good on -- so giving the show to everybody that paid is probably not feasible. My feeling is that they will rebroadcast this for the people that missed it or to let them in on a future webcast is probably more in line with how they will deal with compensating people.
