DOWNLOADS!

Two magical, complete performances from Philadelphia in Fall '79, the basis for Road Trips, Vol. 1 No. 1. These Spectrum shows, 11/5/79 & 11/6/79, are now available in both FLAC and MP3; documenting the band in the midst of their sparkling three-week eastern swing and capturing the raw excitement of the first tours with keyboardist Brent Mydland.

Previously unreleased in their entirety, now you can hear both shows from start to finish. The 11/5 performance includes "China Cat" as the show opener and a standout set with "Eyes of the World > Estimated Prophet > Franklin's Tower." The next night features a 15-minute plus "Terrapin Station," along with an extended "Playin' in the Band" with solid contributions from keyboardist Brent Mydland.

This is a digital-only release, and you have the option of downloading each show separately (11/5/79 and 11/6/79), or saving 10% when you order the two full shows together!

while our pals in Customer Service are trying to reach Pete and resolve this issue, here's some useful info on the subject:

There are three places where customers can access the link to their "My Downloads" page:

1) the order confirmation page right after they place their order (there's a link that says "If your cart includes a download, click here")

2) the confirmation email that the customer receives after their purcahse is complete

3) after logging into their Store account, go down to the bottom-left side of the store, click "My Account", and underneath that link, click "My Downloads"

The actual URL is http://www.deadnetstore.com/User/MyDownloads.aspx .

How do i fix the speed...

avatar

I agree with the previous post that these shows sound slow...so how do i fix them? What software do i need to adjust the pitch?

Pitch

Agreed Rob. I wonder if anyone at Rhino would care to comment?

pitch/speed correction

The Soundtouch facility on the excellent Foobar2000 player (its free) allows you to make adjustments as you listen.

Best place for advice on this topic is thetradersdenorg

but if this is a problem then it should be fixed by the vendor. Some feedback would be helpful.

I agree- these files are pitched low.

I listened to several tracks while still in FLAC (Winamp will play FLAC files directly and also SHN files with a downloaded plug-in), and then converted a few and listened to the WAV (regular audio) files, and they are all definitely slow, which besides sounding sluggish, affects the key signature of the music. When Rob B used the word "cents" in his appraisal and said the change was 2.7 percent, I figured he must be knowledgeable and on the right track, because cents is a technical term used in music and audio work to precisely define differences in pitch. So I tried speeding up two of the tracks by that amount in Sony Soundforge and they both sounded much better to my non-perfect ears.
Despite this problem, I'm very happy to see new downloads, and have faith in The Rhinos' desire to provide quality products, so I'm standing by.

For those on a Mac - freeware program ToolPlayer works great - used Rob B suggestion and tracks sound a lot better. Bummer one has to do this themselves.

Pitch Problem

avatar

I was about to order this release until I read the posts discussing the pitch issues. I'm just barely savvy enough to download FLAC files and burn them onto CDs. Fixing the pitch myself? There isn't a chance I could do that without a tech expert here to show me how. I'm not ordering this one until I see Dead.net make an official response in this forum saying that they fixed the problem. There is no reason why they shouldn't be able to fix this. I love all Dead releases: compilations, downloads, complete shows, box sets, the works. I buy them all. But I'm going to hold off until they fix this one. With all the upset fans demanding full show releases, it's too bad these files have technical problems. I'm certain there are many, many fans out there who, like me, are waiting for this release to be fixed before they place their orders. Let me ask you, the folks of Dead.net, what is the story with the pitch problems? Will they be fixed?

Pitch issues

I passed this along when the issue first came up yesterday, and have just sent another email mentioning that the issue is looming large for folks. I do not have any info for you yet, but I hope that will change soon. Today's Saturday, of course, so it may be Monday before I know anything significant. Thanks for bringing up the issue.
