Grateful Dead

April 16 - April 22, 2012

Tapers Section By David Lemieux

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music spanning 15 years of Grateful Dead history, 1974-1989.

Our first selection this is one of my favorite pieces of music in general, a 1974 version of Playing In The Band, this one specifically from 9/18/74 in dijon, france.

Next is music from the summer of 1981, specifically the start of the show on 7/7/81 in Kansas City. From this show we have New Minglewood Blues>Bertha>Dancing In The Street, Big Railroad Blues, El Paso, To Lay Me Down. You'll notice that this is the old Disco arrangement of Dancing In The Street, and I have no idea what prompted them to play it for the first time in more than 18 months , but I can hear here why they left it alone after this. They did revive it in 1984, but in its original arrangement.

Lastly this week is a timely selection from 7/18/89 at Alpine Valley. Timely because this Thursday, April 19, you can see this entire show in movie theaters across the country in pristine video. From this show we have the start of set 2 featuring Sugar Magnolia > Scarlet Begonias ; Man Smart (Woman Smarter) ; Eyes Of The World. Go to the movies! You'll dig it.

See you here next week with more tunes from the vault.

David Lemieux

disco dancin' one last time...

Love it. Bob's commentary pretty much nails it. But it's very cool they went for it anyway. The audience sure seems to appreciate it. I'd never heard this.

It's 10:20 PM in the EST
on April 22nd in the Year 2012.

I am in for---> Playing in the Band.

An excellent choice to solely feature.

I will end this day and this week now.

Tomorrow will bring rain and
thirsty flowers and birds in need
of a bath and I, I will love them all
while they understand me not.

It will be a busy week to get to edge out
a time for friends and new memories over
the weekend.

Thanks for always starting the week with
excellent goodness and joy. Habits, Ha!

Yeah, that was awesome---Wow!

I Love You, All XO!

hey fluffanutter

I'll clean this up. Poor Jay has just gotten ensnared in the misbehaving system that has ensnared many another.

Great sample from the new movie! Saw it last night, it was AWESOME! How about a box set of the three '89 Alpine Valley shows? That would be great! Or one of them for Dave's Picks 3 or 4 ! See ya folks! :) P.S. HAPPY 4/20! :) :) ;)

It is Friday, April the 20th in the Year of 2012.

It is not Thursday,
April the 19th in the Year 2012;
as it can never be again.

But alas, it can never not
exist to be. Time that was,
will always be, though it can
not be it again, Is.
it will never be what it was not and
will always be exactly what it was.

Thank goodness time changes
only to become unchangeable.

June 12th will always somehow be
June 12th and it goes like that.

The calendar has lost it's freedom
and there is no new time unless
you pretend it. Rock On and
don't forget Secretaries Day!
Make some German Potato Salad
for Pearl Harbor Day! And lest we
forget Awareness months.

Celebrate the Sentence.

It's only 364 days,
87,840 seconds at a time.

Spirits don't wear watches.
They keep time. It's 4/20.
