Grateful Dead

April 23 - April 29, 2012

Tapers Section By David Lemieux

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have some fine summer Grateful Dead from the 1980s.

Our first selection is the end of Set 1 from Kansas City on 7/7/81, where we have Lazy Lightning>Supplication, Bird Song>Looks Like Rain>Deal. I'm a big fan of 1981 Grateful Dead. It's definitely “80s” Dead, but they have not yet started playing all of the newer 1982-1983 songs (which I love).

Next is the end of the second set from Merriweather on 6/30/85, featuring The Other One>Stella Blue>Around and Around>Sugar Magnolia. The start of this second set is justifiably famous, but we figured we'd highlight the other part of the set this week.

Lastly this week we have the start of the second set from RFK Stadium on 7/13/89, featuring He's Gone>LL Rain>Terrapin Station. That He's Gone is a rare set-opening version. I distinctly remember these two RFK shows as being hot, humid and overcast. Decent shows, too.

Join us here next week for more tunes from the vault.

Christmas Morning here, oh yeah!

Kudos tyedwad and thanks alot too!

Ain't no place I'd rather be!

In exchange a poem I wrote some
time ago for today it seems.
Brain candy for the subconscious,
to me. Hey I bent it a little and
it is born of this day, to be sure.

Sometimes, a feeling can't be felt until
it is created. If the feeling
is selected from the ones it has
already felt before; Time, then,
is like a clock keeping time for
the same
day, everyday. Ecstasy becomes
stale overtime. To think! Go now...
Grab a refreshment
and toast to the un-toast-ed moments
of the setting sun and the rising moon
and all that might be in the new days

I am grateful for the music.
This was a tremendous selection
and I am in awe at how wonderful
a visit I am having!

I am in contemplation and this
music is taking me to the
places in my mind that I've
not merged before. That's
awesome, to the un-toast'd...

Justifiably famous indeed. Listen to an AUD copy to hear the frenzy that the crowd had been whipped into during the second set. Still get the chills everytime I hear this show. Thank you, for a real good time.

I love how the RFK He's Gone kicks off the set

It's just like a passenger train leaving a station. Nice and smooth.

Woke today
Mother Earth
in rapture.

She mends
and sends.
She learns
once again and
becomes the
future. Her
reflection in the
sky as she sends
another to the Other
Side of all we see.

Thank you Father Sky.

It is Thursday, April 26th in the Year of Our Lord 2012.

(I could tell...)

It's alright cause
I love you
not gonna change.

Wake unto the sound, xo.
