Greetings, and welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have a double dose of the mid-70s, and a 1987 segment.
First up is the Grateful Dead playing in El Paso, TX, on 11/23/73, as part of the terrific Fall Tour of 1973. Although not quite to the level of the Denver shows that preceded this one, there is some great playing here, with Eyes Of The World, Around and Around>Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad>Casey Jones, Johnny B. Goode.
Next up is music from the Wall Of Sound, on the band's third tour with the huge sound system (the tours were in May, June, and July-August), featuring music from the first stop of this tour in Fresno, CA on 7/19/74, featuring the end of the first set: Scarlet Begonias, El Paso, Tennessee Jed, Playing In The Band.
Our final stop this week is on 9/12/87 in Landover, MD, at the Capital Center, where we have the start of the first set featuring Hell In A Bucket, Loser, Me And My Uncle> Big River , Ramble On Rose ,Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues. I, like everyone who was seeing shows at this time, loved it anytime Phil sang lead, but I was always particularly fond of his rendition of Tom Thumb's Blues. A great song, and a perfect fit for Phil.
Be sure to join us here next week for more tunes from the vault.
