Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1977, 1978, and 1983.
Our first stop this week is on 4/22/77 at the Philadelphia Spectrum, on opening night of the Spring Tour of 1977, a tour widely considered one of the best in the Dead’s 30 years of performing live. From this excellent show, we have a chunk of the first set, featuring Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo; Looks Like Rain ; Deal ; El Paso ; Tennessee Jed; Estimated Prophet; Peggy-O.
Next up is the end of the show from 4/21/78 in Lexington, KY, featuring Drums > Jam > Stella Blue> Truckin'> Playing In The Band, Werewolves Of London, including a Stella Blue that was so good it was included on the 1999 career retrospective So Many Roads.
Next is music from 4/19/83 in Orono, ME, where we have this terrific first set sequence: Friend Of The Devil ; It's All Over Now ; Dire Wolf > Big River ; Dupree's Diamond Blues; On The Road Again ; West L.A. Fadeaway; Lazy Lightnin' > Supplication ; Might As Well.
Be sure to stop by in a week for more music from the vault.
