August 8 - August 14, 2011
Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have a fine batch o' Dead from 1970, 1972 and 1982.
Our first stop this week is the first show of 1970, on 1/2/70 at the Fillmore East in New York. The opening track, The Other One, only features the end of the song, as this portion of the show we'll play for you today is the start of a reel, but we have some fine music after that: Other One>Cryptical Envelopment>Cosmic Charlie, Uncle John's Band>High Time.
From exactly two years later on 1/2/72 at Winterland in San Francisco, we have the start of the show, eaturing Truckin',Sugaree ,Mr. Charlie ,Beat It On Down The Line ,Loser, Jack Straw ,Chinatown Shuffle ,Tennessee Jed, El Paso ,You Win Again. This is the show that also included the split Good Lovin' (with China>Rider in the middle), which we've played for you here before.
Lastly this week is music from the fine Spring Tour of 1982 (for further proof of the high quality of this tour, check out the brand new Road Trips Vol. 4 No. 4), on 4/11/82 at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, NY, where we have the end of the first set, featuring Althea > Beat It On Down The Line ; Row Jimmy ; Let It G/row. There's a cassette master cut in Let It Grow, but it's not too obtrusive.
Be sure to stop by next week for more great music from the Grateful Dead's archive. And as always, we encourage you to write to us at the address below.
glad it's all working now. Maybe it's just because you logged in from Europe when we were just waking up here....
crazy as it seems, once i logged in i could access this week!!!! i don't know if it's total coincidence in timing, as if the problem while i commented, or if the log in has to do with it, or if my computer is just playing pranks on me!??
well, the Taper's Section list does still show next week's dates with no content in link, but this week now comes up with the content... of course this just HAD to work itself out After i put in a comment about it.. :P
Thanks for everything David and Co!!
..cannot access this week. The list even shows next week's dates in Taper's Section, of which this and next week lead nowhere. I also tried accessing this week through the Home page and Features page, both attempts finding no content. Something buggy for the second week in a row... will check back in on this comment board for any Admin info.
love it, even with Phil low in the mix.
ever heard 8/28/82's china rider? if so, go listen again. if not, get it and love it.
Hey Man, Fantastic week as Always! That Cosmic Charlie is one for the ages.Perhaps an Owsley recording? On display here is the band rehearsing their vocal harmonies for the upcoming Workingman's sessions.Finest Kind DL Merci beaucoup Monsieur Lemieux

nice g/row jimmy row : ) : ) : )
72 is awesome as usual!!!
"Jesus Christ, The Same, Yesterday, Today and Forever"
5/21 is HOT, especially second set pre-drums. It would have been awesome to be there; my first show happened shortly thereafter (7/18/82).
Tapes from 1982 crackle with energy . I don t know what it is
I never really paid close attention to the spring of 1982 . I have tapes , but they never really did much for me . Summer '82 is a completely different thing , and theres MUCH inspiration there .......
The Oct shows at thw Frost Amphitheatre are some of my favourites - and i think many can account for that too .......
We may have to give 4.4 RT a try David and see how the band did on April 6 , and the 5th .......
* I think there was a run of concerts at the Greek theatre in May in 1982 . Will have to check Internet Archive and see what that was all about . Those shows , in photos show those sweetly enormous tie dye backdrops .
thanks for the choices, david- what a lovely start to the day! caroline
