February 2 - February 8, 2015
Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music from 1969, 1981 and 1989, a nice range of eras for the Grateful Dead.
From 11/7/69 at the Fillmore Auditorium, we have the start of the show, featuring Morning Dew, Hard To Handle, Casey Jones, Mama Tried, Me and My Uncle, Cold Rain and Snow. This was recorded the night before the majestic show that would make up Dick's Picks Vol. 16, which included a spectacular second set jam.
Next up is the start of the show from 5/12/81 in New Haven, featuring Alabama Getaway > Greatest Story Ever Told ; Peggy-O; Cassidy ; It Must Have Been The Roses ; Me And My Uncle > Big River. The Big River is cut on the master cassette, which is to say this sequence makes up the entirety of Side A on the master cassette
Lastly this week is the end of the second set from 10/12/89 at the Meadowlands, featuring Space>The Other One>Wharf Rat>Sugar Magnolia. This is the second night of a five night run in New Jersey. The next night, a night off for the band, Bob and Jerry appeared on the David Letterman show and performed Second That Emotion.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
Charlie Miller didn't step on this
from 69...Thanks so much for sharing these treasures!!!
Lovin the runs of 1969 era. Keep 'em coming!
3-9-81 plus many more. Nov. December have great recordings. So I would look to those months for an 81 release.
Not sure if dreams come true. But I had a dream about an 83' box set last night. The exact run was Warfield March 29-31, 1983. Weird dream. I have never heard any of these shows. But I do really enjoy most of the April 83 tour and a lot of the late summer and Fall 83 shows.
Lemieux has included music in Taper's Section from 1981 for the last 2 months. It is very much appreciated, but none the less a bit of a tease....we're way over due for a 1981 release and/or box set. All the great 1981 music form 5-81 has been nice, please give us a 1981 release or a 5/81 box set for that matter....enough with the 1970s era releases IMHO
i was @ the New Haven show & spent alot of time listening to both 11/7 & 11/8/69 with Dick..very fond memories indeed...
