February 5 - February 11, 2018
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have music from 1971, 1981, and 1982.
Our first selection this week is the start of the show from the first night of a six night run at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, which is notable for a couple of reasons: it was Mickey’s last show with the Dead for a few years, and it featured the debuts of several songs, including three included here (Bertha, Loser, Greatest Story). Also, these shows were recorded to 16-track tape for consideration for the Skull and Roses live album, although none of these shows were featured on the album. From 2/18/71, we have Bertha ; Truckin' ; It Hurts Me Too; Loser; Greatest Story Ever Told > Johnny B. Goode.
From a decade later in Chicago on 2/26/81, we have this big second set sequence featuring He's Gone> Drums > Space > Truckin'> Black Peter > Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad > Johnny B. Goode, US Blues, which includes a very hefty jam out of He’s Gone.
Lastly this week is the start of the show from 4/11/82 at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, NY, where we have Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo > Franklin's Tower > El Paso ; Candyman > Little Red Rooster.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
