Tapers Section By David Lemieux

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we'll have music from 1973, 1979 and 1980.

Our first stop this week is on 12/8/73 at Duke University in Durham, NC, where we have the second set jam sequence made up of He's Gone>Truckin'>Nobody's Fault>Jam>Other One>Wharf Rat, Stella. That's a rare back-to-back Jerry ballad duet of songs to end the sequence. As we've mentioned here before, this is one of the finest tour's in Grateful Dead history, with a relentless barrage of great shows 10/19/73 through 12/19/73.

Next up is Space>Lost Sailor>Saint of Circumsatnce>Wharf Rat>Truckin'; Johnny B. Goode from Chicago's uptown theatre on 12/3/79, with a could rarities in terms of song placement: the sailor>Saint out of Space wasn't too common, and no was the Truckin' set closer.

Our last stop this week is another batch of early Brent, featuring Feel Like A Stranger, Loser, Cassidy, Ramble On, Rooster, Bird Song, Me and My Uncle>Big River 11/30/80 from the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. This is the bulk of the first set, a great batch of Dead, including the recently returned Bird Song, which had been brought back acoustically for the Warfield-RCMH shows in September-October, but played electrically after that.

Stop by next week for music from 1972 and 1977.

Spellcheck is not always correct...

I'm a victim of circumsatnce! - looks like auto-correct got the best of the Uptown Theatre description ;) Maybe dead.net needs a proofreader - I'm available :)

Thanks David! - Zeb

12/8/73!!!!

Some one said that HUGE Dark Star form 12/6 was on the bonus disc with the RT subscriptions so I assumed 12/8/73 would comprise the next RT. That chunk this week is AMAZING. I think the next box set should be 1973, all of it!!!!!

Thanks for the JAMS David! We sure do appreciate it!!!!

November 1980!

Thanks for the November 1980 goodness! All of these selections are excellent ,but that 4-show run in November 1980 was really something special.

Now if we can just find the soundboard of 11/29/80 Gainesville.... it's the only show from November 1980 that a soundboard hasn't surfaced yet. Thankfully we have Jim Wise's definitive audience recording.

Great stuff

Great stuff! I must say, though, that the "Johnny B Good" in the second selection closely resembles "US Blues."
