Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have music from 1977, 1984 and 1989.
Our first stop this week is the big second set jam from 4/23/77 in Springfield, the second show of what’s widely considered one of the best tours in Grateful Dead history, where every night they pulled out interesting and exciting second set sequences, including this masterful high-octane batch of ’77 Dead: Help On The Way > Slipknot!> Franklin's Tower > Around And Around > Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad > Not Fade Away, One More Saturday Night.
From exactly seven years later on 4/23/84 in New Haven, we have the start of the first set, featuring Jack Straw, Sugaree, Cassidy, Dupree's Diamond Blues.
From five years later on 4/30/89 in Irvine, CA, we have the entire first set, featuring Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo > Wang Dang Doodle ; Stagger Lee ; When I Paint My Masterpiece ; Tennessee Jed ; We Can Run ; Picasso Moon > Deal.
Be sure to join us here next week for more tunes from the vault.
