Tapers Section By David Lemieux

Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we’ll cover about nine years of Grateful Dead history, with music from 1976, 1978 and 1985.

Our first stop is on the excellent Fall Tour of 1976, when the sound of 1977 was beginning to creep into the music. From the penultimate show of the tour, on 10/2/76 in Cincinnati, we have the end of the first set plus the first song of the second set. Tennessee Jed, It's All Over Now, Brown-Eyed Women, Let It Grow, Might As Well; The Music Never Stopped.

Next up is music from the last US show before Egypt, on 9/2/78 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. From that show, we have the start of the second set featuring one of the most interest renditions of Scarlet Begonias>Fire On The Mountain ever performed.

Lastly this week is the pre-Drums sequence from 11/5/85 in Worcester, MA, where we have Man Smart Woman Smarter, Ship Of Fools, Supplication>Playing Reprise>I Don't Need Love.

Be sure to join us next week for more great tunes from deep within the vault.

got it, wilfredtjones.

it was just such an odd posting.

also didn't want to piss off an innocent party, hence the Schwarzenegger inflected "thanks for the tip" (see: Kindergarten Cop).

Cincinnati second set.....

Anyone know why Deadlists has a totally fictitious second set which reads like 1970? Damm, I really should have made that show instead of stopping after the Syracuse night!

seldom turns out the way it does in the song

Some would argue the scarlet>fire is the best version of these paired songs. This is one of the first fires with 3 verses. May I suggest the estimated>eyes from NJ is also worthy of a tapers section selection.

Great selections this time!

Great selections this time!

And I agree with Ted about the night before in Indy - awesome show. That one might make a great Dave's Pick show, hint hint. Probably my very favorite Help-Slip>Franklins. So I am really loving this snippet as well. ...

..and a Shakedown!

That Scarlet>Fire was about as tasty a start to the week as possible... and very pleased to find a Shakedown leading in the '85 clips (~};)
Thanks David!
