    The alluring Saenger: 10/18-19/1980

2 of the most memorable shows I've seen, and in such a beautiful theatre. Each show began with an acoustic set, followed by 2 electric sets. I think Dan Healy was on the board running a cassette recorder . The Saenger has 2600 seats so everyone was close and loving the intimacy of the band's performance. Maybe Dave can treat us to some of the acoustic tunes next?

Week of May 20-26, 2019

Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1970, 1973, and 1980.

Our first stop this week is in Austin, TX, on 2/23/70 where we have some acoustic Dead, followed by some electric music, less than two weeks after the magnificent Fillmore East shows of 2/11-14/70, featuring Me And My Uncle, Black Peter, Seasons Of My Heart> Uncle John's Band, Not Fade Away> Mason's Children.

Next is a classic 1973 sequence from 2/19/73 in Chicago, where we have He's Gone > Truckin' > The Other One. These three songs together always work very well, and this performance certainly doesn’t disappoint.

Lastly this week is the start of the third set from 10/18/80 in New Orleans, when the Dead were making a brief stop on their way to New York City for the run of shows at Radio City Music Hall. From this fine show, we have China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider ; Feel Like A Stranger ; Ship Of Fools ; Estimated Prophet > Eyes Of The World. There’s a cassette tape flip between Estimated and Eyes.

Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
