May 21 - May 27, 2012
Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music from 1969, 1971 and 1986.
Our first stop is on 7/7/69 in Atlanta, where we have Morning Dew, Mama Tried, High Time, Casey Jones, Dark Star. The very end of Dark Star cuts due to the cassette flip, but picks up nicely after a few missing seconds. We'll have that second part of the show next week, and it's excellent, so be sure to return to check it out.
Next is music from the opening night of a four night run at the Felt Forum in New York City. After the closing of the Fillmore East in the Spring of 1971, these were Bill Graham's first shows featuring the Grateful Dead in New York. From opening night on 12/4/71 we have Bill Graham Intro, Truckin', Sugaree, Mr. Charlie, BIODTL, Tennessee Jed, Jack Straw, Run Run Rudolph.
Our last selection this week is from 3/30/86 in Providence, RI, where we have the entire second set: Touch Of Grey ; Samson And Delilah ; Terrapin Station ; Man Smart (Woman Smarter)>Drums>Space>Gimme Some>Why Don't We Do It In The Road>Stella Blue>Throwing Stones>Not Fade Away. That is the last-ever Grateful Dead performance of Why Don't We Do It In The Road.
Be sure to join us next week for more tunes from the vault.
12/4/71...I have some of that somewhere...
3/30/86: rubbery GD. Not their finest year, but still, it always sounds rubbery to me.
Looking forward to that Atlanta show,
(that means "proud foot" in German. Really.)
fwiw: got my ticket for Furthur in Seattle this coming September. :)
this one looks like a total earfull...too cool!
A summer '69 box would be wonderful!
One of my first shows. Thanks for the memory Dave. Pretty sure you were there as well:-)
