Grateful Dead
November 1- November 7, 2010

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music spanning 20 years of Grateful Dead touring.
Our first selection this week is a decent chunk of the first set of 3/22/72 at the Academy of Music in New York, consisting of Me And My Uncle ; Sugaree ; Chinatown Shuffle ; Playing In The Band ; It Hurts Me Too ; Brown Eyed Women ; El Paso ; Brokedown Palace. We never grow tired of this early-1972 Dead, and hope you don't mind how much of it we've played the last few weeks.
Next up is music from 3/25/91 at the Knickerbocker Arena in Albany, NY, featuring the start of the second set: Greatest Story Ever Told ; Crazy Fingers ; Truckin' > Spoonful > Jam > Drums. Walking in to the arena for this run of shows, we were all a little surprised to see that Bruce's piano was not onstage. He'd played the previous four shows at the Cap Center, and would resume his spot on the tour after the Nassau shows following Albany.
Finally this week, some 1992 Dead, from 3/21/92 at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, where we have the whole first set made up of Help On The Way > Slipknot! > Franklin's Tower ; Little Red Rooster ; Peggy-O ; Queen Jane Approximately ; So Many Roads. I was sitting second row at this concert, right in front of Jerry, and I distinctly recall after So Many Roads seeing Jerry and Bob have a little discussion about what to play next, and unable to agree (or think of something…), they decided to end the set there, a rare first-set closer.
Be sure to come back next week and check out some Dead from the vault. And feel free to email us at the address below with any questions or comments about the Tapers' Section.

Very nice version of So Many Roads... quite a bit of dead air before it starts-up after Queen Jane.
