November 14- November 20, 2011

This week we have a nice range of Grateful Dead music spanning 16 years, 1973 to 1989.
Our first selection is a good chunk of music from 5/20/73 in Santa Barbara, CA, part of a three week run of three major shows in May, 1973: Des Moines on 5/13, this one, and Kezar 5/26. From UCSB we have Promised Land, Brown-Eyed Women, Mexicali Blues, Row Jimmy, Jack Straw, Big RR Blues, Greatest Story Ever Told, Here Comes Sunshine, Big River, Loser, El Paso, Casey Jones; Truckin. That Truckin' fades out, but the master recording is mostly intact, so we'll get to the rest of this show another time.
Next is a continuation of some music we played recently here, from 4/14/82 in Glens Falls, NY. From that show we now have the end of the second set: The Wheel>I Need A Miracle>Bertha>Black Peter>Playing In The Band>Johnny B. Goode, US Blues.
Our final selection this week is from 7/15/89, the band's first trip to Deer Creek in Noblesville, IN. From that show, we have the start of the second set, featuring Foolish Heart>Victim Or The Crime>Crazy Fingers>Truckin'>Smokestack Lightning. The Crazy Fingers has a bit of a train wreck moment, but they settle in with a monster Truckin'>Smokestack.
Be sure to stop in next week for more great music from deep within the Grateful Dead's vault.

This week marks the 260th edition of the Taper's Section!
That's exactly 5 Years of the Taper's Section!
It's an Anniversary! Congratulations David and Dead.net!
I'll be celebrating...

Monsieur David,
Among my all-time favorite shows, for good reason.
3 sets, pre-Watkins Glenn.
Sensational invigorated playing.
Right in my wheelhouse.
Repeat when necessary.
& that guy's right--the whole enchilada would make a nice Dave's Thingamajig.
Merci!
Dave,
I'm sorry, but I just now realized that you are duplicating Taper's Section selections now.
The 4/14/82 Glenn Falls selection was also included in the Taper's Section of August 16, 2010.
The 7/15/89 Deer Creek selection was also included in the Taper's Section of July 19, 2010.
It's still great to hear them again - and in this grouping!
Thanks!
Ed
Dave,
I hope you are not running out of tracks from the Vault...
The 5/20/1973 Santa Barbara selection was previously
included in The Taper's Section of August 30, 2010...
The exact same 13 songs...
Deer Creek is nice to hear - I remember being there...
Thanks for all of your effort!
Ed
I'm casting my vote for the Truckin' > Other One > Eyes > Stella Blue from 5/20/73 to be included in a Dave's thingamajig!
...snip!

... nearly made me weep. It is SO good! Jerry sounds like a million dollars, especially his vocal delivery! This is a great set of songs all together. Thank you!
