ABB With Clapton Vine

Started by Pomo1:

Ok, since I had one of if not the best concert experiences of my life last night, I would like to share this aud of the Allman Brothers 3-19-09 at the Beacon Theatre, with Special Guest Eric Clapton. There is even a really nice Schoolgirl for us Deadheads. Folks, this show was amazing, from the opening note to ending with Layla as an encore.

This will go out

to MitD early next week. I will see if I can get a copy of Friday night as well, when Clapton also played. Folks that went both nights say that while Friday was excellent, the energy on Thursday was unbelievable.
Deadicated requested that I provide more details about the show. I sat second row about ten feet from Greg Allman. From the first note, the ABB were on fire. Warren is a monster and is a natural to play with the Dead. Seeing him twice ( I also went Tues. night when Sheryl Crow was the guest-- no need to ask which show was hotter!) has really gotten me psyched to see the Dead for the first time post-Jerry. Derek Trucks is also a phenom. They knew Clapton was going to appear in the Second set, so they really put in extra effort. BTW, Derek plays with Clapton's band.
The first set was great and ended with a long and amazing Whipping Post. I am not a huge "Peachhead" and am much more a Deadhead, but I loved every note.
Then Greg sings a solo to start the second set. They do Come and Go Blues, another classic ABB. By now the place is going crazy waiting for EC. Then Warren does a killer Schoolgirl, and I am thinking it can't get any better than this.
Then EC walks out and the crowd goes nuts. Warren, EC and Derek alternate solos and I am shaking my head in disbelief. EC is smiling and then breaks into one of my favorite songs "Why does love have to be so sad" I was thinking I can't believe after all the years of going to concerts I am finally seeing Clapton and the whole theatre was rockin.

They finish the set. I am thinking it doesn't matter if they even play an encore. Then they play freakin' Layla. I thought I was dreaming. Once in a lifetime experience, period. I am still grinnin two days later. I hope you all get to experience as something as cool I did that night.

BTW, the word is Bobby and Phil will be playing with the ABB on the 28th. I don't have a ticket, but you never know.
