Im in a neat band called Hot Day at the Zoo, playing banjo and dobro. Anyone ever hear of us? Weve been playing all around turning people on to "Zoo-Grass" . Maybe in NYC for a Ratdog after party this summer. Otherwise, check us out at www.myspace.com/hotdayatthezoo
I also do my own stuff at www.myspace.com/joncumming
Check it out and get in touch!
Believe it or not this music IS informed by the Dead - and 40 plus years of being in love
with Rock & Roll.
Waddya gonna do...
Is the name of my current outfit.
check us out @
we're a 60's through 90's cover band specializing in private parties, weddings, graduations, anniversaries, etc...but we do a few bar gigs for fun too!
We camp pretty heavily on the 70's, and do abut half a dozen Dead covers.
Been a musician professionally for 20 years, but it's grown into a side project for me since I now have a family to feed and mortage to pay!
I've recorded and played live with Steve Kimock on a number of occasions and shared the stage with acts such as Dinosaurs, Robert Hunter, Kingfish, Zero, Phish, WSP, SCI, & Blues Traveller.
That's it in a nutshell.
I have just been doing the Solo thing lately.....Alone & Acoustic.............doing lots of Dead, Dylan, Stones, Band, Cash, etc. Nothing new, just the solid gold classics from 50's through 70's, except for all GD music. Come check some out if you are into it.
Let There be Songs To Fill The Air!
now there's a name from our past... Wonder how he's doing.
If some of you remember King Fish and gigs they did in the Bay Area, you probably remember Black Rose. They opened the show for Kingfish and Garcia Saunders and played at Chateau Librete' , Keystone Berkley and placed up near Sonora and all over North California. I was the bassist, vocalist, songwriter guy in the band. Other bands I'd been in- Awsome Light Band, Point La Hasche, George Haggerty Band, Sacred Ground and The Treatment. I live north of Seattle now and my band , Blue Rose, gigs around here. It's funny, this place fits a song I wrote along time ago - Wrinkled Sunshine. I'm currently making a new website for Blue Rose and will post the URL, soon.

Hey all, I saw about 40 GD/related shows between '85-'95, and have kept up with the boys in the years since, as well. I play in two Chicago groups you may be interested in:
Tangleweed is a bluegrass band with a huge bag of bluegrass and jazz traditionals, rock covers and a growing list of originals. Our first two cd's have been played in over 20 countries. We recently played Wakarusa Fest in Lawrence, KS (Widespread, Sam Bush, Claypool, Stringcheese, etc...). Check us out at:
Magnetosphere is a space-rock group playing most original material. We do a few shows a year, make a record now and then, and mostly jam weekly in my attic for our own sanity and enjoyment. We and combine GD-influenced inprovising with Crazy Horse's epic two-chord jams and Sonic Youth's noise freakouts, among many other influences and styles. Check us out at:
There's plenty of free tracks for the taking on both sites, and Tangleweed has a couple shows on the Archive.org site.
Please drop me a line if you happen to be interested in any of this!
Peace from Chicago,
Celebrating 20 years deadicated to playing music from the Grateful Dead, and Jerry Garcia Band. Check out Cubensis on archive.org for live aud recordings and some sbd's as well. Look for us if your in the LA area. Cubensis.com for a list of upcoming shows and more. Cubensis is unique in the way they approach GD music. Craig (lead guitarist) plays different era jerry guitar styles, sometimes not corresponding to any recorded or live version of the same era...Tom (Keys) plays and sings most like Brent...but also sings Jerry songs, and with a Brentlike voice sings Jerry and Pigpen tunes also. Nate (Bob Weir Guy) sings and screams, and plays guitar like bob, but also sings Jerry Tunes and plays Jerry leads (he's done a national Jerry Garcia guitar licks DVD to prove his worthiness) Larry (Phil Lesh) sings Pig songs as well as dropping the Philbomb as needed....Steve- (Mickey and Billy stuff) is prolly the hardest working of all...besides playing all the drum parts...sings a lot of Jerry Tunes while not missing a beat playing the part of 2 drummers, adding all that up creates a sort of "fantasy grateful dead" experience, while on occasion having members of the extented GD family join in playing with them makes it that more special. Come check us out if you can and enjoy all the great music out there...
