Well it goes both ways

When you receive 4 vines in the mail and you need to post that you received/are mailing them, it is sometimes difficult to find the vine especially when no one has posted for over a week (or longer).

But in reality if that is my biggest problem I have to face - searching for vines, well then I'm doing pretty good!

My 2 cents

is with Pid, Badger, gratefuldean above-bout vine bog down. Like the separate topic idea, because get aggravated too when other disucssions get buried waaaay down the page count.

Vines

I agree that vines tend to clog the "all recent posts" and send some threads to the back pages quickly. I'm usually here early AM Eastern time, and I can't count the number of times I've seen a thread go from the top of page one to page three when I check back at lunchtime...with most of the intervening threads comprised of vine-stuff. As I have the patience and time to just go a couple of pages deep looking for things that may be of interest (not that vines aren't interesting...I click on them to see what I'm missing, so very tempting!), I sign off a bit earlier than I might if the vines weren't taking up that space.

So a way of filtering out the vines as a category makes the most sense to me...they would be there if you want them, and not there if you don't.

I like it the way it is!

Don't think you could have better...those who are on the bus and those who are not!

WOW

I just aquired so much information about filtering and such just by reading this. Maybey they could start the vines at a certain number on a page, say page 200 or something like that. It doesn't really matter to me either way. Maybey put topics in alphabetial order?
PEACE and thank you deadnet

Richard

the short answer is no, not reliably. It would be a nice thing to have and is a good feature on other systems.

Is there a place on the site where I can find all the topics I personnally participate? There is so many interesting discussions that sometimes I'm lost in the Ozone again. Thank you, Richard.

It's OK if the vines show up in "Recent Posts"...

...which as the default should show all recent posts of any type. Being able to sort the Vineyard posts out of the way would certainly make getting to the other Recent Posts topics easier. Don't know if that would help threads "stay alive" though, if people aren't bothering to click through a few pages of recent posts to get to a certain discussion topic, and don't bother to learn how to navigate the site I doubt they'd learn how to use the "Filter by Type" function to get the Vineyard posts out of the way.

Navigating directly to specific topics (without going through Recent Posts) appears to be difficult for some people - I don't think some people even realize they can tunnel through the hierarchy from "Forums" -> (category) -> (subcategory). The pathway to some topics is hard to find, as well. Getting to "Spinnin', spinnin' free - the sequel" is an example - you have to go to "Dancin' in the Street", then to "Spinnin', spinnin' free" and go to the last page of that topic to catch the link to the "sequel".

I've found bookmarking specific topics to be helpful. I've also learned to love the search box when trying to quickly get to a specific topic. There's a lot of topics to begin with, easy for things to get lost or misplaced. Like this thread, which seems to be more appropriate to the Admin Questions & Discussions topic, or maybe Topic & Feature Suggestions.

I'm guessing there's not a lot that could be done with the Private Messaging system, which is the big improvements that would make me smile. Being able to sort by "received from" or "sent to" usernames would be sweet, being able to create folders would be nice too.

All in all, the site is easily worth what I pay for it.

Cheers, MitD
