Grateful Dead
I have some shows from a band called Go Ahead:
Brent Mydland - keyboards, vocals
Alex Lingertwood - guitar, vocals, percussion
Jerry Cortez - lead guitar, vocals
David Margen - bass, vocals
Bill Kreutzman - drums
I think Bob Weir played with them a few times too.
anybody got any tapes of Kokomo, Brent's short-lived band with Billy? I liked them; I got to go to their press conference at Front Street and when I got there Brent was rocking out singing "Girl Like U." Dang, I miss Brent.
but I believe the location is wrong. I don't recall that Brent ever did a solo show at the Greek, and the time is about right for the BCT show in question.
is this the show you are talking about?
7/10/88 - Brent Mydland
Greek Theatre - Berkeley, CA
University of California Berkeley
Setlist:
d1t01 - Love Doesn't Have To Be Pretty
d1t02 - Maybe You Know
d1t03 - Musician (Not An Easy Life)
d1t04 - Gentlemen Start Your Engines
d1t05 - I Will Take You Home
d1t06 - Devil With The Blue Dress On ->
d1t07 - Good Golly Miss Molly ->
d1t08 - Devil With The Blue Dress On
Is it Brent that makes the thunder sounds on keyboards on " Looks like Rain" ?
but does anyone have a recording of Brent's set at the Seva benefit at BCT, not too long before he passed, as I recall? It contains what I think is the only performance of "Love Doesn't Have to Be Pretty," a song he wrote with Barlow and never recorded. It was hair-raising.
I had a tape once, but I have no idea where it is, and I miss it.
Your unique keyboards and soulful vocals will always hold a very special place in my heart. Heard you sing "Tons of Steel" at my first show and it blew me away! Rock on, brother!
... on his birthday. We miss him very much, he was an extraordinary keyboardist...
Musician (Not An Easy Life)
From the 1976 album "Silver", with whom Brent played keyboards.
Lyrics: Brent Mydland
Music: Brent Mydland
The rent's due tomorrow
Haven't got a penny to my name
I'm trying to build me a lifetime
Think I'd better start a new frame
Chorus
And I think I'm learning first hand
About what it's like to be
To be a musician
And I can see
It's not an easy life
It's not an easy life to live
Guess that I chose the hard road
No use wondering why
I had hopes I would make it
Must have had my hopes up too high
[chorus]
And I keep on smiling
Ooh, smiling
Smiling to hide the pain
Inside I'm crying
Ooh, crying
And it's hard to explain
[chorus]

Locations
though I can't remember if it was before Kokomo or after. I do like Alex Ligertwood's singing...
