Cool Stuff on Other Sites

In the course of our various online travels, we sometimes run across stuff that's cool enough that we want to share it with folks here, and which wouldn't exactly work to drag here wholesale. Quite often we can address this by posting links in relevant topics, but sometimes there isn't one.

So this is the place to post links to such items.

tales from the GD ticket office

(full disclosure, with one of my other hats on I'm working on this project)

Over on the Facebook page for the Dead Letters book, Steven Marcus and various folks from the GDTS office are telling tales from the old days. The time the FBI came to the post office and took away all the envelopes because they were convinced Drug Dealing Through The Mail was happening. Etc. Come on down and check it out. Ask questions. Maybe even help us identify mystery artists!

Dylan Fans!

My wife found this animated video to Dylan's Little Drummer Boy on Amazon. If you haven't heard his Christmas CD yet, it's good, & all proceeds in the U.S. go to the charity Feeding America.

savetibet.org: 2 Tibetans executed in Lhasa

Website of the International Campaign for Tibet. they are the most mainstream, reasonable, establishment type group that has an office in Washington DC and lobbies on behalf of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Government In Exile in Dharamsala, India.

The 2 Tibetans executed by the Chinese were claimed to have started fires that took people's lives during the uprising in march of 2008. The reality for the Tibetan people is grim as they are marginalized in their homeland and their culture dismantled. A once proud people have been relegated to lower caste status by Han Chinese.

Peter Gabriel's New Web Site

Gabriel is going to start a new web site that suggests various media to his fans, for "consumption". I think he's going to name the site "The Filter" or "Filter" (release is expected in the next few weeks). The intent is for Peter to serve as a cosmic "DJ" of sorts for media that is not getting hyped due to it's content or lack of mass appeal. Keep your eyes and ears open, the mind can't be far behind.

save tibet

in light of recent news events, please visit www.savetibet.org and pass the information along to as many folks as you can. in a nutshell, china is trying to destroy tibet's culture and religion and hide this fact from the rest of the world. tibet is a country and a culture that actually practices "peace, love and compassion". please help any way you can.

thank you
