Dead Heads in the Military

The upcoming Veterans Day and some posts on the subject have reminded me that, counterintuitive though it may be to the hippie-dippy stereotype, a whole lot of our brothers and sisters on the Bus are now serving or have served in the military.

If you're one of 'em, or your family and friends are, please post here!

Thanks you for all the sacrifices you have made for this country, both personally and bodily....I sure hope you get to see them or at least hear them from afar. I know that even if you can't you're spirit will be with us and who knows maybe you'll perchance to dream about the concert if you don't make it to the show.

~peace~

My son Tyler is about to sail off into the Pacific this morning on the USS Nebraska, after being notified, yesterday, that he would take another sailor's place. He'll miss the Dead at the Gorge consequently: hope his tickets get to a 'Head in need. Tyler will complete his US Navy career & become a civilian in July!!
From one of his favorite Jerry tunes.... "come to daddy, on the inside straight..."

to any deadheads at Pearl Harbor

At the end of June, I will be visiting my brother who is a Lt. at Pearl Harbor. I will be staying there for two weeks, and I am looking for fellow heads to connect with. My brother the Lt. Is definitly not a head, nor is he even slightly hip, so I am going to definitely need to connect with some folks who are.

For all of those that have come before, and for those that will go now, and future, and for all who continue to. Take a moment and be Grateful of all the little things that we have. Freedom is not free, Comes with a cost, Look around you each day, some take things for granted and don't realize how living free came to be. WE as a whole have not reached the peak of a tremendous mountain. The possibilty is there, There are some whom only hate drives a reason to live, Collectively WE can reach the peak, Put all dumb shit aside and take care of each other. I have written this from my heart. Am so glad to be alive, each day the sun comes up brings new life, believe in it. Let there be songs to fill the air.

I guess I was late coming to the party. My first show was just last week, the end of the tour show at the Gorge in Washington. I really wasn't sure what to expect. The only reason I was going was because a friend I hadn't seen in 27 years got tickets for us and flew in from Alaska. Yes, he is an Air Force guy, and we finally got to reconnect after such a long time. I, am currently in my 16th year in the Army. Yes, I have been over there, multiple times. Music is indeed part of what makes life bearable there, in the heat, sand, and threat of constant danger.
Anyway, the show. It was truly amazing, and I was converted then and there. I bought my first cd today, the newest greatest hits, I guess it is as good a place to start as any. I was surprised to hear that a Counting Crows song that I had loved for a few years was actually a Dead song (Friend of the Devil).
So anyway, there are indeed Dead fans in the military, actually, a lot of them. Many people believe that soldiers crave war, but nothing could be further from the truth. A soldier wants peace more than anything, because for him, war is very personal, and very immediate, and very long lasting.

Thanks for listening to my ramble.
