I can understand some your views about the Dead picking a delegate and supporting them publicly like they are. But maybe they aren't thinking about this the same way we are. We are so excited that the boys are getting back together. But just maybe they are thinking about THEMSELVES, which is totally ok. I mean they have done so much for us and myself, that for once I think they should use their skills, power, and talents to stand up for something they believe in. I don't think they are thinking of how big a deal it is for them to be together again, like we do. They just want to support someone who has the same ideals has they do and I totally agree with them.
I for one cannot see how someone who really listens and feels the vibe that the Dead give off can even think of supporting a country, or president, who starts wars, neglects the needy and on and on. For me music WAS about putting aside all of that and having fun. Yet at the same time it was a time for having an open mind to new experiences and ideals. Being a Deadhead has formed some of my ideals, those of peace, equality, love, and many other ideals that make up my paradigm of my life. Going to shows showed me that there was a way that people could get along without having to fight, and argue. There was a NEW way of living in which we could all get along. But this is just what I got out of the Dead experience, and so much more. Your mileage may vary, I do realize. I guess what I am trying to say is that its hard for me to be a Deadhead and support certain causes, such as war. Thats all I'll say about that.
Remember, this is not about us. This is about 4 men who want to use their power to help out a cause they feel very strong about. They are not asking all of us to come. And I don't think it divides us if you "look at it right". This is just a side project for the boys, but thats the way THEY look at it. Next year, if they do a tour, is going to be for us I imagine.
No one protested when they did some shows for Greenpeace did they? There were probably some people who thought that was a sham, people who didn't believe in a bunch of money going to some treehuggers who are protecting seals. Yet I bet some of you went anyway that felt that way?! Let these men use their talents in the way THEY want them. We dont' own them, what kind of freedom would that be. It would be totally selfish if we insisted that they dont' do this kind of show. Its not all about us folks.
That's what I am against...I don't go to concerts to get preached to. That's why you'll never see me at a Neil Young concert, on top of the fact that I think his music is terrible and that he is a miserable musician. But the dead rule, and up until lately I never felt like I had to be anything but myself....People asume that if you are agaist the Dead politcizing thier music you must be a republican when nothing can be further from the truth and that's not the point. The point is using this music to tell me who to vote for...I am sorry, that's crap, it doesn't matter if they are supporting Obama, Clinton, Barr, McKinny, or that old guy...Mccain; politics divide people and it's dividing us now...I do not and will not agree with it. It has never been about that, so why now?
Them getting back together is great, doing it for a politician is not...Honestly, do you know any politcians who are at least a little slimy? Do you think he just might be a little slimy too?
When it's not about music for music's sake and letting it take you where it goes, then really whats the point of doing it?
peace through music
And that's who I'm thinking of voting for, Nobody. Cause Nobody cares. Seriously, I can't wait to dance the current administration out and a new one in! So if Y'all git confused about political or any other stuff listen to the music play!
Jerry would have voted for Ron Paul.
i just got off the phone with bryce n still no confermation i think well just have to wieght n let the good folks do what n when they have to!!!!
I've been checking the Internet for any further information about this show, and could find none. I live in State College, so I figured I would just stop by Obama HQ on South Allen Street when I was downtown for lunch. I just got back.
They didn't know anything except for what was in the Centre Daily Times this morning, and they suggested I try the Bryce Jordan Center ticket office. The BJC site still doesn't have the concert listed, so I haven't called or stopped by the BJC yet.
Dead in PA
First, see you Saturday, Pappy -- theCAUSE at Thunderbird _always_ enjoyable...
Secondly, I was for Obama before the Warfield show. I admit there are Republican Deadheads, and I shouldn't rag on them for their choice. I just don't understand how anyone who revels in the spirit of the Haight, of the Dead, can vote for someone who wants the rich richer, the poor poorer, and everyone under educated. 87 million Americans have foreclosed homes and go bankrupt due to rising healthcare costs. Things like that cannot continue, or this isn't going to be the land of opportunity it's supposed to be.
* Listening to 9/18/70... great shiznit!

I agree the DFO title is unwise. But the PA show is not yet officially called that is it? Lets wait and see before we judge.
The GD made no rules, but let us think 4 ourselves. So let the 4 guys do the same. If Jerry were here they might do different, but he's gone and they're doing what they think best.
