Fall 77 Part 2

I have heard the rumblings and I apologize for the long lag btwn part 1 and part 2, but I am ready to seed this vine. It will consist of 10/1/77, 10/2/77, 10/6/77 and 11/4/77. Thanks to the co-sponsors of this vine, Oroboros, who has graciously provided set 2 of 10/2/77 (my copy had gaps), and ltapilot, whose selflessness is proven once again as he sends me 11/4/77 (my copy had generational loss).

I'm not going to go over all the shows from this tour that have been vined and officially released (a lot!!!), but I would like to say that: (1) I believe there are a handful of GREAT shows from this tour, (2) that 10/2 and 11/4 are in that category, and (3) that 10/1 and 10/6 are fine shows.

I don't know the origins of 10/1, 10/2 or 10/6 and am not providing the setlists here for them. There is no need to know the selists, if you like '77 and don't have these shows, sign the hell up, you won't be disappointed!!!. But here is the setlist and other info re: 11/4 as provided to me my ltapilot:

11/4/77 Coterrell Gymnasium, Colgate University (the Homecoming Dance!) Hamilton, NY

Disc 1 1. Bertha 2. Good Lovin' 3. Brown-Eyed Women 4. Cassidy 5. It Must Have Been the Roses 6. Sunrise 7. Minglewood Blues 8. Dupree's Diamond Blues 9. Let It Grow

Disc 2 1. "Jones Gang" Introduction* 2. Samson & Delilah 3. Cold Rain & Snow 4. Playing in the Band 5. Eyes of the World 6. Estimated Prophet 7. The Other One

Disc 3 1. drums 2. Iko Iko 3. Stella Blue 4. Playing in the Band 5. (E) Johnny B. Goode

*The NEW track (d2T01.NEW) contains a patch for the famous "Jones Gang" introduction to set 2. This has been patched to contain the complete intro from a quite good audience tape (AUD: MR> C> C -- not a completely reliable sourcing, but close enough for its purpose here). The crowd is prominent, and the AUD is fun because they're absolutely nuts. In fact, the whole show circulates in AUD and it's recommended.

There are two .md5 files for d2. The first (gd77-11-04d2.md5) contains the original tracks. The second .md5 file (gd77-11-04d2NEW.md5) contains checksum information for the new track ONLY. You should when burning choose either d2t01.shn (no patch) OR d2t01.NEW.shn (with AUD patch), but not both.

New track seeded by braverman@earthlink.net, 2/01. Other tracks seeded but not accompanied by text file, so source information is missing; sorry.

--------------

The following was posted by the Undernet sometime after the initial seeding. braverman@earthlink.net wholeheartedly concurs, but suggests respectfully that the authors read more widely than middle-period Hunter Thompson.

gd77-11-04 - Jones Gang@Colgate University Homecoming

This seed slipped into the 'tree under the radar from the alt.dead crew last month without the fanfare this Royal Assblaster deserves. The crazily fast, tight mania that crackles off of this show will leave you breathless and exhausted after a full listen.

A good show to compare this to would be 77.05.04. While both shows exhibit the signature '77 hyperdelic cocaine soundstamp -- 05.04 is a nice moonlit, redwine convertible ride compared to the violent psychic enema the Dead gave these undergraduates that magical night at Colgate. The blistering solos during this Eyes of the World alone will make every effort to toss you bodily over The Cliff.

This one will clean the tubes right out -- never mind the initial pressure behind the eyes and those leering insectoid midgets as the skein of space/time unravels, just hang ON to your faces, loyal SHNarvesters, this is some ride...

You may want to PM DarkStarr1971 first...

Hi!

Darkstarr can take a while to reply, he works out of town a lot. He pulled off a bunch of vines earlier, and may have just missed this one. You may want to PM him first, make sure he still wants the vine

Cheers, MarkintheDark ************************************** *The white zone is for loading and unloading only* **************************************
