1979 Fall Vine Part One

Hey now,

In searching through all the tangles of vines that grace this site I found very few shows from 1979. I have some very quality soundboards from the fall tour of 1979. These shows absolutly rock.

The band sounds so energized with newbie Brent who has such a funky sound with his H-3 and Fender Rhodes. This transition type year for the Dead in which they were pushing Go to Heaven with a lot of Alabama Getaway's, extendo Althea's, but still jamming Passenger, 'Disco' Dancin' in the Streets, and Earth Shattering Other One's. These shows are filled with great 2nd set pre-drums jams that seemed to have a Caution type sound to them. Jerry and Brent seem to hang around well into drums during a lot of the shows.

If anyone is interested in this I have 6 shows that I think will proudly represent this period. I will divide these into two vines as they will be recorded on CDR's and I don't want to send 18 discs.

guys...

It's long been my contention, in explaining to the higher ups about why it was important to allow vining, that Deadheads are a scrupulous lot and quite honorable, by and large, about not vining commercial releases, and I see this playing out here. Kudos to you.

This is a somewhat more complex situation than, say, the Winterland box set for which we had a veritable vine-retirement party, but I concur, we can't really leave this one as is in view of the subsequent releases. (After all, one of the goals here is to encourage the higher ups to hurry up the new releases!)

So let's do this. I'm going to freeze this topic in its current form. We can start a new one sans the newly released shows if you like, picking up the signup from where we are now.

To belabor the obvious, I cannot physically go to your house and prevent you mailing each other whatever you like. What people on the current list do is between them and their conscience, but from my side of the social contract it's time to freeze this version. Thanks all.

OK, I don't feel so bad

The Dead released digital downloads 11/5/79 on 9-11-08 and Marye released this vine on 9/2/08 so I was oblivious for a reason. Could use a little more input. I will PM Mary about this and get her ideas.

I don't know the protocal here

Maybe I should ask Free Idea to discard 11/5 from the vine. I can replace it with another show....maybe the next night of Cape Cod 10/28?

A little help?

Good Point GDhead

I blame it on ignorance. I had no idea. Thanks, and sorry to the Band.

Out to Free Idea

Ok I'm done and sending out to Free Idea... By the way 11/5 is part of the digital download series (which I purchased already) and my recommendation is that vines should not contain material commercially released. Anyway thanks for the other shows on the vine!

Vine update

I received this vine today and will take a bit longer than usual as I am going to copy the files to hard drive and then do some editing to remove gaps as best I can with roxio sound editor. Then will burn back to a CDR. As far as the US Blues D3T7 of 11/9 I was able to copy to hard drive and listen to with WMP. Assume that means no issue burning back onto a CDR.

I already have Free Idea's addy so as soon as I am done will ship out original vine discs to him. Should be by end of the week.

Thanks

I am not complaining. Thanks for the vine. Let's see if Marty can burn that disc.

Thanks

Need a helping hand?

As this is my vine, can I help in any way? About the gaps, I am sorry, but I could not find a seemless source.
