Help on the Way

simpletwist suggested this topic, and my first reaction was to be amazed that it didn't already exist. But, while we do have various topics along this line (e.g. Positive Vibes, A Little Light, and Shelter From the Storm), we really don't have a topic where people in need of help--and who among us does not need help at some point?--can explain the situation and ask.

So here it is.

This may be digging a bit deep

But what are the symptoms of autism again? I think I sometimes confuse it with something else.

"Lazy lightning you say you never strike the same place. I want a double dose in any case" ... "You got to hear my supplication. Got to hear me now. A little bolt of inspiration"

I think a topic for Deadheads with autism would be an excellent idea. Guess you might want to see how much response you get but there have to be many Heads out there who are on the autism spectrum and many more who know someone who is. This would have to be true just from statistics on the frequency of autism. Plus, I have to think that the Dead scene would attract many individuals with Asperger and other high functioning forms of autism because it could provide a place where their unique individuality would be accepted and even perceived as being cool. My son's therapist keeps telling me I have Asperger. I'm not sure I accept that diagnosis but I have always felt "different" and the Dead community was one of the few places I felt I 'fit in"!

Have a very dear old friendd with Asperger's, who was only properly diagnosed at 40 (3 years ago). He is just now coming to grips with who he is, and learning to function within his condition-and more importantly that he is A-OK as he is. We had been speaking quite alot about this, and what an interesting coincidence that you are posting this just now.

As this friend is also a Head, I will suggest that he looks at this thread too, and perhaps a support or discussion group could build. That would be really awesome!

Thanks for your post! I sent you a message. My son has autism and is a huge Dead fan. I'm sure there are more Deadheads out there on the spectrum. Perhaps this will enable them and those of us who love them to find each other. Peace.

Autism/Asperger's

Hey everyone...

My son and I are autistic. We have a condition called Asperger's Syndrome. Anyway, we sort of blazed our own path from getting a diagnosis all the way through finding a good doctor and school for our son. If anyone needs help or has questions about Autism or Asperger's, please send me a message and I'll try to share our self-gained expertise with you.

Best Regards,
Hozomeen

wish I could...

Darrosen, it is difficult...since I"m an east coaster, I cannot offer you any guidance on this matter...Please know that I'll be hoping for things to work out, as they sometimes do when we don't push too hard....whatever happens, do not descend into cynicism!

Peace to you,
Ron

I guess you can say this is a matter of help

I have not seen live dead music in about 4 months and it makes me wanna cry. You all know how we strive in that enviroment and the thing is, I moved and it seems i can not find one soul around here who is in my age group (18-25) who likes to go SEE grateful dead music. Im in corona california.. any one wanna help a friendly stranger find a way to go see some live music?
