I knew I should have jumped the fence at the Gorge....I just read something on the 'net' that blows my mind.The gates at the Gorge are actually vaccination devices developed from Alien technology recovered at a site NE of the Gila hotsprings in Arizona.The "tests" have been designed to introduce a recently synthesized substance to a test population that is diverse in it's behavior and yet can be summoned at will, virtually within days,to the Gorge for 'furthur'(s.i.c.)testing....

nothing to do with the Gorge, but the Dead-as-CIA-plot meme has been around forever. Somewhere on the net there's a fascinating rant involving, among other things, allegations that Alan Trist's father was a spook for the British government.
Face it, considering the interpretations people come up with for the song lyrics, the scene is a pretty fertile ground for conspiracy theories.
However, nice to know we can look forward to Jer's return in a couple years!
