thanks pomo for your review of the shows. Sounds promising! I'm glad there are some Phil appreciators here. Re: Bobby was Bobby - it's understood... And I now know where the best Friday night jam is. Long Island isn't far away, maybe I'll get a miracle! (Never tried bfore - always did my mail order legit =)

I know one place where I will be for a jam Friday night--the Dead at Nassau Coliseum.

I went to all 3 shows Monday. The experience was amazing. The music was uneven. The first venue had about 200 people, in an old converted synagogue, and the setting was amazing. Phil, Bobby and Warren played an acoustic set that had some flaws, but a terrific 20 minute Birdsong was the highlight.

The next venue was the Blender at gramercy, about 500 capacity. Nice solid set. Opened with a long jam into Playin. Nice Franklin's Tower also. Still a little uneven, but a nice set.

The final set was at Roseland, maybe 3000 people. This set had the most energy by far. In my opinion Warren did not really open up all day until Eyes of the World. This has always been one of my favorite songs and this was the highlight for me of the whole day, music- wise. They then closed with St. Stephen>Dark Star>Sugar Mag, and NFA encore. They were jammin pretty hot by the end.

Overall, it aint the same without Jerry. However, I think Warren is a perfect fit and will feel less constrained as the tour progresses. Phil is still a total genius and a monster. If it weren't for Phil, I dont even know if i would go to these shows. The drummers, too were solid. Bobby was Bobby.

Hey Shov39, Is this the Ship

Hey Shov39,

Is this the Ship of Fools you're talking about? I thought it was a ruse to ship us off and get us lost at sea, hence the name.

Roseland

Thanks pomo1,

How was Roseland anyway? Did you catch any other of the shows? There was a mixed Village Voice review with funny comments:

Anyway, thanks for the Bitter End thumbs-up. I'm also looking for a good Friday Night jam. Anything cooking out there?

See you in 23 days - ha, lucky number!

After Party at the Bitter End

Since my long-time buddy books the acts at the Bitter End, that's where I will be heading after the show.

He is a Deadhead, we just went to Roseland together, so I am sure the bands will be cool for us.

Truckin' down to MSG

Greetings folks,

1st time posting here - oh what fun! A van-load of us are coming in from Toronto for a NYC weekend. Looking for good before- and after-parties Friday and Saturday. Especially jams. Looks like there are already a couple lined up:

Grateful Dead After Party! @ New York City's Most Prestigious Rock
Venue: "The Bitter End" April 25, 2009. Starts at 7pm. (I guess for
the folks who can't make the real party. I wonder how late it will
run, seeing as it's the after-party and all).

The Dead After-Party featuring Natural Breakdown
Saturday, April 25, 2009 - 11:59 PM
BB King Blues Club and Grill NY
New York, NY

Also thinking NY weekend drum jams. Any tips would be grand. See you at the show!
