Message from Merl Saunders’ family:

Merl Saunders stood for music and love – his smile alone told you that. We loved him very much – and we know that you, his fans, did too. Sad as we are to lose him, we’re very aware of being comforted by the affection coming from all those touched by that smile and that wonderful music. He was a special man, a beautiful companion, father, grandfather, and family patriarch, and the proof of that spirit is in the way you’ve reached out to us at his passing. From our hearts, thank you. And we know Merl thanks you too.

Keep on keepin’ on, The Saunders Family

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 29th, at 11 am at First AME Zion Church, 2159 Golden Gate Ave., San Francisco.

In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made to either the Rainforest Action Network (www.ran.org) or the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic (www.HAFCl.org).

Farewell to a beautiful soul

Wishing the family and friends of this special soul strength in the days ahead. The world lost a great caring wonderful man, with the smile of an angel and the heart of saint. He will be forever missed here, but his spirit will live on in memory and music. May he go and play with his dear friends that have gone before him, and make them smile. We love you Merl.

God Bless You Merl

Merl, Thank you for being such a wonderful person, and a true friend to all your fans, as well as Mother Earth , who you did so much to protect. Your passing leaves us all sad, but when we hear your music we just have to smile. Thanks Brother, enjoy eternity in peace, and heavenly, funky jams!

if we all helped each other with our burdens

like this brave soul helped jerry, would'nt this be a much better world to live in? God, please grant merl's family peace and tranquility in their hour of need, knowing he's in a better place. "and we'll all be together, forever and ever, when we make it to the promised land"
