See this what I mean now why didn't I get into them at least 77-90? the whole communal celebration thing would have been so great. then again i may have become truly obsessed and become a camp follower hard to do with a mortgage and 4 kids. I thank god for the DVDs and really loud HD TV.when I wear the GD golf shirts straight people have no idea what it is but kids smirk and nod. And the road goes on forever.... BobbaLee

Hello everyone! Im actually writing a paper on Deadheads, and I had a few questions..hopefully you can all help enlighten me! Can you clarify the 'on the bus' expression? Also, besides tie-dyed t-shirts what did most deadheads wear? Are there any expressions or slang that is commonly used? I hope somebody can help! Thanks!

I am a 54 year old insurance agent in Miami, Saw the GD at Gulfstream in 1969? hated them, got into the 72 Live album, lost touch always loved the Beatles,ABB, Little Feat etc and then came my decade long jazz obsession. I work with a younger guy who is into the GD and Phish. Between him and his brother who is about my age they have seen the GD about 150 times. Starting listening about two years ago and then about a year ago it hit. I start every morning watching the 89 Oakland New years show while I use my Nordic Track. I finish and stretch out to Terrapin which to me is the greatest song ever. I do listen to WDNA the jazz station in Miami and I try not to listen to the GD in the car. I am a native plant person and my yard is a giant butterfly garden. I am forming sculptures depicting my favorite songs. My wife will listen with me and loves Uncle John-Scarlett >Fire and Terrapin. And the road goes on forever.... BobbaLee

Welcome to the wonderful world of Dead.net! All of us have experienced the double posting bug at some time or another. Sunshine Daydream used to be a master of that-with the occasional triple! Perhaps is an initiation rite or something :-)********************************** Don't part with your illusions. When they are gone, you will still exist, but you have ceased to live. Samuel Clemens

I too saw my first show and didn't "get it". I went to a large 3 day music festival (US Festival) and was there to see the bands of the day (Police,English Beat,Oingo Boingo, Clash, etc..) I saw GD's less than interesting performance at 9a and thought nothing more of them. In 1987 I was really into playing Dylan tunes on the Guitar so when he came to So Cal with GD in tow something clicked and I knew this was great band. I was on the steps of the bus and then when I saw them again in 1988 in Long Beach I got both feet on thed bus and have not looked back! Thanks Bobba for sharing your inspirations as well. Eric

I REALLY hate those shoes. Sure, everybody I know has atleast one pair (even my own Kid). If I had to choose between Crocs & the aforementioned re-treads, I'd go with the O.G.

Quite a few of us were also devoted VW bus fans who decked out our pop-top campers and cargo vans with and endless amount of Dead stickers we purchased in the parking lots. (It was a sad day when my own beloved 78 VW bus would no longer pass California's Smog II test without considerable expense. Wrecking yards are now full of quite a few that limped their way across country and back.) Yes, those beloved VW vans were, in the words of Austin Powers, "shaggin wagons." Fess up, folks. Even on a thread like this one. There was more to the scene than just the band. The parking lot scene allowed all of us who owned VW vans and the like - a cheap alternative to budget motels and a fun place to party all night. We were carrying on the original idea of Kesey's bus, but with more up-to-date sound systems and modern conveniences. Some of us were smart enough to invest in portable chemical toilets. You should not overlook the "in the bus" late evening crowd where countless children probably were conceived along the way - those one-night rendevous with that special someone whom we met during Drums/Space and whisked off to the twilight of the parking lot to consummate our new found love. Yes, I remember those days well.

I'm new here. I've actually been lurking around for almost a year, but finally decided to register and say Hi. I'm just so happy right now! You see, as with a lot of things, I never took advantage of the opportunities I had when I was younger to see the boys play. On 3 different occasions in the 80's and 90's I had tickets in my hands to go, only to give them to someone I thought would enjoy it more than me. If I could only have those moments back, Anyways, I know it's not exactly the same, but I got tix for the "Change Rocks" show, and I can't even convey how excited I am about this. I would of much rather had my first expierence be on the floor, but I'm thankful I got tix up in the nosebleeds. Well, back to my Fillmore 70 show. Thanks for such a wonderful place it's gratefully appreciated. Billy Be Kind!
