Vines

I haven't been involved with the vines on this site as long as some of you. Compared to other sites that post vines, it seems that we have a good thing going. Other than the initial crazyness that happens in New Vines when they are first posted, it's really organized.( Thank you marye) To me Its the friendly, free environment that reflects the Grateful Dead Family values that I came to appreciate on tour. What ever is decided I hope that we can keep it as "rule free" as possible and let the vinners solve problems as they arise. My 2 cents : )

Thank you pkpotter

I was scared at just the thought of not having a vineyard but I wasent really sure what to say and I dont think you could have said it better. The music does lose something when you take out the human element. I wouldent even download shows from etree for that very reason until recently, and thats only so I can start vines for them here.

Also without the vineyard I really have no idea what Id do with my time. I would be very very sad if it all the sudden didnt exist.

Im cool with whatever changes that need to be made to make it easier on marye though.

Peace,
Trevor

Oops!! Didn't mean to cut and paste the whole set list. Thanks to TNHG for a great show. The set looks fantastic. Good Lovin'>La Bamba>Good Lovin' is worth it alone.

MSG 9/18/87 Vine
I was noticing that there are no 87 shows listed in the vindex so I thought id offer up this matrix as a start to representing this year. I will also be getting a show together to represent 86 so keep an eye out.

Also if anyone has any other 87 shows that they would like to add to this vine feel free to do so.

Thoughts from the garden gate

There is human element here that is special. The sharing, with someone who shares with you and you in turn share with someone else. The idea of a " data bank" where all shows could just be downloaded with no human element involved has lost the very essence of what the band created and encouraged. It loses the magic, yes the song's are there, the music is great, but the stories and the life spark are absent.
The magic is preserved here, in my opinion, by the interaction of the people involved in these vines, who tend the garden with a sparkle of life and a desire to share the great experiences they have had. It brings out the best in peolple. And the people here are some of the best, so that is elevating the human experience.
Long live this magical garden, and the lives it touches

Take the vine process elsewhere?

Either let Marye receive the details, with her doing the posting as her time permits, or move the vining elsewhere. I've been trading for 30 years: networking with friends without the use of website posting. Downloading from eTree is the simplest mechanism I know of today.

2 cents

I think we need to put a lock on this new vines list and roll it over to New Vines Part 3.
In the header I would like to see a description of the vining process and how it works.

Also, the original disclaimer about how things can get screwed up but as a community it our responsibility to unscrew it. By guidance to the new vines, compassion for our brother and sister when they have those times in a humans life that are not pleasant and above all a graciousness not found in the general internet world.

Now that I have had my 2 cents, what is the thoughts of this great group?

Peace
Rick

to make a long story short, that is not practical under the current software, so we're working with with we've got.

My two cents worth.

I also want to thank all the seeders and viners and Mary. I am enjoying the vineyard almost as much as when I was actually seeing the real thing, many, many years ago. I even still get disappointed when I am listening to a show and Bobby goes into some silly cowboy song (or Around and Around) after a killer Wharf Rat or Morning Dew, although it actually happened 30 years ago!

I think people should post their ideas for new vines on this topic or a new 09 version, but no signups until they have their own topic. This way, there is less for Mary to sort out and also all of the signups will have taken place in a single as opposed to two different topics. Also, it has the advantage of the viners discussing and anticipating new vines in one place.

As for any confusion, I believe we are adult enough to sort out and resolve any issues regarding signing order. The person who seeded the vine would have ultimate authority. We could also put a note: "Please do not sign up for this vine until it has its own topic." After a while, people will get the idea.

Of course, whatever makes things easier for Mary is paramount.

Happy New Year and I hope to see you guys during the upcoming tour.
