Part I Just to clarify (and not contradict), Phil and his web site does not provide downloads but rather links to the sites where fans upload shows for others to download via FTP, peer to peer, via third party software, which is usually free (complicated? sounds worse than is, in reality). They do maintain a "store", which sells their stuff and music, as well. Maintaining a site to provide download material is not easy and can contain much liability and expense, I'm told. Bobby's site uses a 3rd party (with separate web site) for purchased downloads. I only point this out because my idea is that some folks here are under the wrong impression, regarding downloads, and where they really come from, either free or purchased. The Supreme Court is expected to hear arguments on accepting or rejecting arguments to allow the case to be presented for consideration but first must rule on arguments that any information contained in the case may present a threat to national security. Some insiders have indicated that The Court may first decriminalize marijuana so that they can get stoned (to-the-BeJesus) to relieve the mind numbing effects of having thousands of tie-dyed hippies, completely out of sync, argue for months, on the issue of which format is actually "Lossless" and more agreeable to current forms of home entertainment technology. i heard a rumor to that effect somewhere, but am glad to know the taping goes on. i should know better than to pay attention to the rumor mill. nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile

Just heard back from JC again, after he'd talked to an actual taper. (JC has been rather mystified by the question to begin with, since he says no one else complained and Phil is passionate about getting the music out there, but said he'd look into it.) Bottom line: there WAS taping at the Greek; there was a taping section right behind the soundboard, much as in the olden days. Now true, there were scary signs at the entrances, but it would appear that tapers got their stuff through just fine. If you or someone you know had a different experience, please advise (or head over to phillesh.net and post the particulars, as I think they'd take a pretty lively interest in the matter). Thank you for raising the issue. JC and I haven't talked this much in years!
