"You are not allowed to post a new forum topic" ?

avatar

Hi there,

1. Is the "You are not allowed to post a new forum topic" thing a temporary measure?

2. Signatures seem to be doubling up.

Thanks for doing what you do.

maps and topics

Topic starting is turned off for now. As you'll see from the bug reports, we've got a lot of chaos to manage right now and are trying to keep it manageable.

If there's a topic you want, let izzie or me know and we'll start it for you.

Re the map, you won't appear on it properly unless you type in your full street address; that's a google issue. And, as some have mentioned, one might want to think twice before entering one's street address in a public place on the net. So, for the moment, this is a bit of a quandary without easy answers.

I suppose this is why i can't get on
The Spanish Provinces don't come up so i can't put my full address on
I live in a tiny remote mountain vallage, which surprisingly is on the map

Great site. Great job all

Great site. Great job all involved. I wish you all the best. But I have decided that I'm not going to participate in this forum, despite being active on the previous one, and (indeed) being active on all manner of Dead forums since forums began! I have never seen a 'topic approval' system like this, and I'm surprised to now encounter it in the Dead realm, of all places! It missjudges the way that most busy middle aged people interact with a forum. It removes 75% of the sponteneity and all but rules out the possibility of casual contributions - the very kind that make forums funny, friendly, fickle and responsive! Sorry to talk like this. It's not your fault, but... "You cannot post new forum topics" is the end of the road. And besides, my wife will welcome the fact that I'm not going to be spending time on the Dead forum. So maybe it's for the best! Take care. Thank you for doing what you do!

happy trails!

I hope your wife is indeed happier now to have you back!

Members/off topic suggestion

Hi - I think this may have been discussed and reported, but when I was checking out the members and using the "next" button to move on to the next page, there were many repeats of members (even a page?!)...
Also, if I may make a suggestion? Is there any way to put a link to member's email addy's so that an off topic message might be sent & not clog the forum arteries?
Thanks-
Vivi

the immediate workaround is to click on their name, which will take you to their profile page and, usually, allow you to send them a private message. Hope this helps.

vivi, would sending a PM accomplish most of the same thing, at least for now?

ah, more post-threading fu

But vivi, hope your question is somewhat answered.
