In general, I agree with you though, if only because (Cipollina being a prime example) they were pretty much reduced to playing standards that were in their common vocabulary.
Mileage varies considerably though.

It always seemed to me that overall,and with exceptions, when they played with guests,niether made their best music. I'm thinking about Dylan specifically.
There have been so many great guests appear with the boys /girl :>)
I could write a book...so from the Beach Boys to Edie Brickell there should be a CD set with guests. Hows that sound?

The Palladium Shows in NYC, Cornell, and Buffalo would be a great addition on CD
and if only there were video from those shows, that would be amazing!
