I was just getting started buying downloads. I wasn't sure about them at first, but after my first two, I'm hooked and I need more now, but they're not here. Thank you marye for being on the case.
One would think that someone with over 2000 hours of traded Grateful Dead would not need to buy any more, but they would be emphatically wrong. I am certain I am not the only one who feels this way. What having a large collection of good lossless recordings does though is this: we just can't listen to lossy recordings, and we sure aren't going to pay for them. People say you can't hear the difference, but I beg to differ.
We will, however, pay for reasonably priced lossless recordings until we have all of them. We most certainly will not trade official releases, and we will badger and bully those who attempt it.
Hey Rhino, you have a cash cow here, and every day missed you are pissing it away.
Friends and neighbors, while it would be premature to say that your prayers and entreaties have been answered, it's certainly safe to say that they've inspired urgent prioritization and help is on the way.
In response to this morning's batch of pleas, the word from our pals at the Store is, essentially, this:
1. The Download Series will return to the Store real soon now.
2. It was never the intention for it to go away; it just sort of slipped down the list due to the bazillion other issues involved in launching the new site.
3. Thanks to your many comments, there is now no doubt in anyone's mind that this is an urgently desired offering, and it's risen to the top of the priority sort.
We will have more definite news shortly, but we thought you'd like to know this now!
Izzie and I are forwarding this stuff to the Rhinos religiously, but it would do no harm if you would make the same points directly:
I for one will never buy a show that I can't download. It takes a lot less energy and fewer resources to download and store a show on a hard drive, then play it from there, than it does to manufacture, burn, package and transport (over thousands of miles with $3 a gallon gas) a CD. For an organization as allegedly intelligent and environmentally conscious as the Dead to be doing this dumbfounds me, and I will not reward this stupidity with my wallet. Other than the Winterland DVD, all the official releases I've bought have been downloads. I look forward to continuing to do so as soon as you restore the download option.
No lossless option for iTunes? Dumb. DRM? Can be defeated - again, dumb. And anyone can rip a CD and spread files that way, so there's no copyright protection there. Dumb. The environment loses, your base support loses, you lose. Really, really, really -- dumb. :-(
I should have said, that I had come back this morning to buy the remaining downloads I was missing....
I couldn't buy them all at once before, and I needed to buy some furniture... and now that I want to spend some $, I can't. Oh well.
Hey, on an unrelated note... someone should talk to the people who make the "Smartfilter" software. www.deadnetstore.com comes up as a spam/phishing site in their list. You should email them and have it removed.
I just came back to the store after a little while away. I have Digital Downloads 2,3,4,6,7 and the Family Dog show. I wanted to fill in and buy the ones I'm missing, and see that they aren't here... and no one knows if they will be coming back.
Let me be the 100th to say, bring them back! I want to finish downloading them. There is no way in heck though, that I'm buying them off iTunes. I would rather just not have them. If it's not FLAC, then sorry, I'm not paying. I'm sure I'm not the only person who thinks that....
I look forward to the downloads coming back. I mean, if they don't, then I assume I just have to look online or trade someone for the flac shows? I dunno, I've never been much of a trader but I sure don't want an incomplete collection.
Seriously though, if every voice equals X number of deadheads and that's how they base decisions, then let me represent my X number, and say I don't want mp3 or lossy junk from iTunes when the FLAC's have been released by the band. So bring em back so I can pay my money to the band please, just like many did before me. I will patiently await their return until it's said they are or aren't for certain.
any more on that subject than "we think so, stay tuned..." we will be sure to post it. we certainly hope so!
Will the Digital Down loads be back at the store?
iTunes has all the downloads, but doesn't have the album art that was available on the old Dead website. It would be nice if the art could be posted again so we can make up covers for download CDs.
you can still buy the old downloads on itunes
but i still would prefer them in flac
