i use cds

hey everyone let me jump in on the subject at hand. i use cds and cassettes for various projects. in my work truck i play cassettes. for most other listening situations i use cds. i convert mp3s into wave files that are lossless. also i convert flac files the same way. i understand that wave files are a better quality reproduction. maybe there is less compression to the music making it sound better. regardless i use cds and i vote to keep this site as cd capable. this is a cool site i hope it continues to work well. i already have great sounding stuff. ive never been involved in vines but its a gas so far. keep up the good work everyone. cheers and peace.

CDs please (hey that rhymes)

Thank you Hunter, and I will take my lumps for being old school. And I my computer skills are flintstonian. My youngest son's ipod went to the shop for the 3rd time in 2 years and each time it gets wiped clean. But he does have some of that music on the computer here. What if we get a virus (orwhatever) and have to wipe this computer clean and have to start from scratch? I am jealous of when we go on vacation and he brings that little device and have to lug my CDs along. But I would prefer the CD format, if possible. I understand if that changes then I'll have to get with the program. And as Hal sez I also like to crank it up on my stereo, and I do have my turntable (NOT for scratchin') and my tape deck. But I use CD overwhelmingly at this point. And I do feel some sense of security looking at my 'library' of music. I do see your point, operator and maybe I will be there someday. But not yet.

CDs

I'm there with Hunter. All that I do have in mp3 is on this computer. I have lots of CDs and see no reason to download them in to mp3. I will probably get some portable mp3 player in the near future. I also like to have them stored on something hard as backup; I guess I just don't trust electronics that much. Have heard horror stories of people losing all music stored on mp3 player or computer, of course I have also heard of CDs and albums being stolen, etc. I am getting a little tired of every 10 years or so a new medium comes about and things become unavailable in the old formats. I hear that some feel this way about CDs; you are wondering if people still use CDs. I still have records and cassettes that I play. I know I am going off subject a bit here, but I have also read that mp3 is not as high a quality as cds because the sound is so condensed. If that is the case why do so many people want mp3, it seems to me it is a convenience and storage issue. But I read on this site about people wanting CDs to be released because of their sound quality. Do many people even care about quality overall or listening to a great system or is it all becoming earbuds and small bookshelf systems? I like shaking my house here once in a while with Phil's bass or drums.

Just checking in on the Hampton Vine. Last I saw they were with spacebrother. Did you get them off to gypsysoul? Just checking, thanks. -Hunter

I can't speak for the rest

I can't speak for the rest of the group but I would prefer that the format stays as it is. I get the feeling that many of us that have gravitated tward the vine are not as technicaly inclined as some. If they were they would just download shows. Cd burners are pretty much as widespread as tapedecks used to be, if not more common. Everyone in the group can burn discs. Not everyone has the knowlege or the inclination to transfer and convert data files. I think the format should be as all inclusive as possible. That being said, anyone who posts a vine can feel free to offer it in any format they choose. It's up to the rest of us to decide whether we want to jump on or not. I'd hate to see any members of the group left out do to a lack of technical knowledge. If it is your perogative, it may be wise to offer the vine in both formats. Just my thoughts. This our thread and it should serve us in the best way possible, whatever that may be. I'd be interested to hear what others have to say. Vine on! -Hunter

CDs??

I'm just curious to know what everyone's next step is when they receive the vine in the mail. Personally, I import it into ITunes and then send off the discs. I never use cds anymore just an IPod or ITunes. I'm asking because I'm wondering if anyone still uses cds. If not, it seems like it would make more sense to burn one data disc so we don't have to send around 6 discs each time. Any thoughts?
