Makes sense!!!!!!

I like it...And let me just say Izz, that you and Marye are KICK ASS and are doing a great job.....Us cats from the old dead.net are just stuck in our ways and this new site will take some getting used to.....I think that the GOOD things on this site outweigh the bad by far....

Greyfolded, I hear you - I really do. It is not within the current capacity of our open-source software to do that. It's as simple as that - even if we wanted to (and it seems like a fine idea to me!) we don't have to software tools to do it. I'm sorry. We're not actively trying to stymie anyone's creativity or freedoms here.

How about a topic that is topic-less? Just a space to post whatver you want and talk about whatever comes to mind. Would that help?

Special Section

Why not just have ONE special section where members who want or like to create topics can??? Im not saying make the whole site like that, just one section....Then those who like Free-Form topics can go there and those who don't can stay with the pre-made sections...We just want choices, thats all....And it sound's fair to have 1 section to create things and 20+ other sections that are preset topics.......

we don't need no stinkin' badges

MaryE and izzie aren't cops, or sheriffs, or den mothers or Evil Overlords of the Vast Conspiracy Against Free Speakin' Hippies. I promise.

We've been asked to help create a site that works for a wide swath of folks from different areas on the Net. There are people here who don't want users creating topics, and there are clearly a vocal group who do. As hard as is it on some folks, we're hearing from others who like it this way and would be less interested in staying if it went wooly with free-for-all topics.

We're trying to 'split the baby' here by doing what we (and the other admin types as we're not in this alone) think will work best. Your patience and understanding are appreciated!

And seriously - you want particular topics? So ask! (I would say, So tell! but that sounds like we'e automatically going to do anything you request, and you know that just can't be.)

Hey CC

Great to see ya over here on the new board!!!!!!!! I loved your posts on the old one and your insight helped a young Head a lot......THANK YOU!!!
I like the idea of having a special section where we can create topics like you said..Then people can pick and choose how they want to surf the board....I agree that a lot of posts on the old board got buried by the Rabbit's antics (Remember "Post a Pic of Yourself", it turned into a nightmare) but we seemed to be able to right the ship most of the time....

Im just happy to see all the people like you CC that made the old board so much fun are here!!

CC, short version...

Many insights in your post, and if I answered in detail we'd be here all day with not that much new information.

One of the things we're currently banging our heads against is that there seems to be little or no capability to have different rules (like topic starting, posts having to go through moderation, etc.) in different sections. What we're doing right now very much reflects those constraints.

And let's just say the ignore function (or, as it's called on the Well, the bozofilter) is very high on our feature request issue. For whatever reason, some people don't want to have to cross paths with some other people but are perfectly happy with the place otherwise (or so we've found, over and over), and the ignore tool is the perfect way to handle it. (The "neener neener I've got you on Ignore!" syndrome, not so much.)

I think the site is faboo

I think the site is faboo and will just get better and better. Everybody should just relax. It's been only, what......less than a week? Give the kind and hard working folks here a chance to get things flowing.
I'm a happy camper!
