I think the site is faboo

I think the site is faboo and will just get better and better. Everybody should just relax. It's been only, what......less than a week? Give the kind and hard working folks here a chance to get things flowing.
I'm a happy camper!

I don't think it's very hip to let you 2 pick all the topic's we submit to you......"

dude, first, HEY NOW! how's life?? I don't know if I've said hey now since we've been here...

anyway,

I think marye and izzie have made it pretty clear that the choice of topic thing may or may not be forever... as it is taking time to get the bugs out of this system and so on.

so I do not think it is a hip or unhip issue. ( -;

concerning the long term future, and computer software reality as well as personal choice, there would probably be no way to 'limit' topics to one or 2 per week. no way that would work in real life, sometimes the creativity would flow, sometimes not.

I am a computer dummy, but if it were possible to have an area that anyone can post topics in, and others that everyone can not it would be the common sense compromise.

clearly, some folks will always think there are too many topics now. and others will think there are not enough.

for the short term solution, and trying to compromise here, please look in the topic suggestion thread at the bottom of the main screen. I suggested a few new topics, and then, better yet, having people be able to create topics in one section of the forum. so, in the end, my suggestion is a few new sections of the board where people could post their own topics.

IF both types of things are possible at the same time, and that is a big IF, in this way, people could choose their own approach to the board, and decide if they prefer the wild west or a more structured setting.

again, I would like to remind everyone, this might take a bit of time. so, please keep patient, and please do not jump ship. we went from Pirates on the Ship of Fools, to suddenly having a few captains around. no call for any mutiny. no reason not to let us drift around for a few more days, or a couple of weeks even... and see where we end up.

these computer thangs are fucking complicated animals... I would like to be able to create new topics, I would like to continue the lighthearted banter, but at the same time I see the benefit of having some structured organization so it is easy to find stuff or keep things on track. people may have written or posted up some links in the past (old dead.net board) about some festival or something, then they got burried under the rabbit droppings or lost in the shuffle.

so, while I would love to have the ability to quote, I guess this system just does not have that feature, or it will take a bit of time to up-grade the system to include that.

finally, I think marye and izzie will need to think long and hard about how hard they might 'police' the board. which in effect means how hard do they want to work at this site once it is up and running?? if someone posts stuff which is way off topic, what will they do? move it? delete it? the other issue would be if some trolls or other assholes start posting total junk and total bullshit. what will be done? even when the sherrif wasn't in town, we, the members of the community were pretty much able to police ourselves. certainly, we all learned how to click the 'ignore' function to avoid seeing total crap.

so, yeah, by the way, is there an ignore function? meaning we do not have to read certain people's posts ever?

I think I want to ignore myself. ( -;

but I hope all of you good people will tolorate my rambles.

deep down I am old school, and I have the scene's/communities' best interests at heart.

bottom line, please give this a bit more time. pretty please with sugar on top?

peace.

All the old site members will tell you that it was the Wild West over there with no Sheriff in sight...We had some good times but remember that a TON of bad posts (circa a screwy Rabbit) were started and some stuff got way off topic.....Why can't we come to an agreement of some sort Lizz and Marye....How bout you limit everyone to a set amount of Topics each week (Say one or two)...Then we still get to post a Topic of our choice but wont bog down the forum with tons of stuff....
I don't think it's very hip to let you 2 pick all the topic's we submit to you......
And yes, bring back QUOTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It makes it easier to discuss things......

AND SOEHARTO DON"T LEAVE!!!!!!!! Your insight is key here.....

there are a lot of stories

there are a lot of stories to tell about those school daze, the early, early years are probably the worst. (well the best - but the worst from the teacher's point of view)

let's just say I was known to 'crack wise' from time to time...

I remember my 8th grade teacher wrote something in my yearbook, (she was cool) something like 'keep up those caustic comments'

is that it? the original CC??!! Caustically Commenting Joe?
the legend continues...

'high' school was another story... but fuck, I did make it into the National Honor Society as did all of us bad ass long hairs back then.

peace.

Crack up

Shit, CC Joe, now you got me busting a gut.
I can only imagine what terror you put your teachers through!
Jeez Louise, they all probably are on medication now or have concealed weapon permits! (and serious facial tics, ala Herbet Lom in the Pink Panther movies)

Sken

"battle of wits between people with little imagination" Sken, you seriously crack me up, man.
How often is this the case, people? That marriage of bluster without substance? Shit, that seems to be the rule as opposed to the exception in society today. It is often whoever makes the most noise or creates the difficulty, that is gifted with the most attention. The problem receives the focus rather than the innovator.
UhOh, I got on my soapbox, on my high horse, and am ready to topple off. It's a good thing I have a hard head (Thank you, Mom.)
Imagination is the key and persuasion is the tool. But you don't get there easily or readily. Maybe by accident and possibly on purpose (or porpoise, Sken?), but not without some perserverance. (Carry On-CSNY, Touch-Dead)
And I must say humor helps as well.
You da man, Sken!

"Everything on this site is a direct reflection on the Grateful Dead which includes the surviving members. I know that if I were one of them I would want some control over what happens in my name. Think about some of the "topics" in the "old" forum. If my name was followed by a "member of the Grateful Dead" footnote and I logged in to that old forum to see what was going on and saw some of the posts, I'd have pulled the plug on it, but thats me. For this reason, I think we owe it to them to bear with them as they (and their staff) explore the possibilities. "

Dear skenisahen,
I think you've put your finger on it. The Forums have been commandeered and are now being used to create some interesting 'content' amongst which the Grateful Dead Store nestles. It's a bit of a shame. Not a travesty or nightmare, or anything like that. The people here are still good people. And the Mods seem lovely. I've no doubt whatsoever that there'll be some interesting threads that will be be permitted. But I think there will be plenty of people like me - who don't want to be just creating content for a corporate web site (which is what skenisahen is getting at, whether or not he/she would put it as baldly as this) - and who will quietly fade away and disappear, regardless of whether or not we feel a bit of enthusiasm at first.

Without rancour, and sincerely wishing you all the best with this new venture

Soeharto
