I think you've put your finger on it. The Forums have been commandeered and are now being used to create some interesting 'content' amongst which the Grateful Dead Store nestles. It's a bit of a shame. Not a travesty or nightmare, or anything like that. The people here are still good people. And the Mods seem lovely. I've no doubt whatsoever that there'll be some interesting threads that will be be permitted. But I think there will be plenty of people like me - who don't want to be just creating content for a corporate web site (which is what skenisahen is getting at, whether or not he/she would put it as baldly as this) - and who will quietly fade away and disappear, regardless of whether or not we feel a bit of enthusiasm at first.
Without rancour, and sincerely wishing you all the best with this new venture
As you may imagine, I still kinda can't believe I got to do that...
But in response to a question many responses up, from Ocean I think, we've gotten a ton of questions from people about what to do when they find errors in the show archive--setlists, venues, whatever.
We now have a good answer. Post them here (and sorry about the long url, but I dunno about tinyurling stuff on this very site...):
And with any luck our intrepid team behind the scenes will then have a central location to look for these things and make it all better. Have at it! And thanks!
...from what I can tell, the inability to create topics without a moderator is a golden concept. I've participated in numerous internet discussion forums and before long nearly all of them turn into some battle of wits between people with little imagination.
Just one thing to consider folks: Everything on this site is a direct reflection on the Grateful Dead which includes the surviving members. I know that if I were one of them I would want some control over what happens in my name. Think about some of the "topics" in the "old" forum. If my name was followed by a "member of the Grateful Dead" footnote and I logged in to that old forum to see what was going on and saw some of the posts, I'd have pulled the plug on it, but thats me. For this reason, I think we owe it to them to bear with them as they (and their staff) explore the possibilities.
Oh, and the "mods" seem real cool. marye penned my favorite interview with Jerry Garcia and has posted it online for all to read so she deserves mad props for that alone!
We dont have the luxury of having had The Dead as our own. So having sites like this is really our only way of keeping in touch with all the other Dead Heads. This site is my contact with all you "Good Guys", so the more the merrier and i am sure that this can only get better.
And who knows, when we emerge from the era of bug fixes...
As for izzie being a babygirl, she is a good 20 years younger than I am. I am Old.:-) But not a mom, except to my dogs.
One of the things I'm liking best about things so far is that we're getting multiple generations of Heads, from people who got on bus in the '60s to teens who never got to see the band. This is, as far as I'm concerned, very cool.

How about bringing back CC Joes "Name That Show" thread"
did I just hear you volunteering to be the guest host, spacebrother? ( -:
I'm hitting the road in a few weeks.... won't be able to do it justice.
please do it, if you feel like it.
where is Lou Davenport when I need him? come on Louuuuu!! (Ted Baxter voice)
I have another new and improved idea for a new show, posting up very short snippets of audio clips of the boys tuning between songs, or coming out of space... that would be a new game show 'Call the Tune' I think I got the techno details worked out of how to get the audio clips hosted elsewhere and then posting up a link here.. but again, no real time to start it now or keep it going. maybe from October. if anyone else can do that, that would be most cool. actually, if the site people felt like it, since they have the tapers section available to host audio stuff, it would be easy. (though time consuming) Rhino could offer real prizes to winners, get some actual sponsors (not my imaginary ones) and I could finally chuck the Uptight Game Show Host's Manual into the Gulf of Siam once and for all. I am still trying to get the Go Kat Go hair grese out of my doo.
meanwhile, I ALSO have to dump my cheesy sports coat a la Monty Hall... my old lady has been bitching to me about that. However, the policy clearly states on page 423 of the Uptight Game SHow Host's Manual that I am required to wear it on camera and off. Even I, your humble host, am not above the policy.

I may be in the minority here but I'm lovin' just about everything I've seen here. Then again I wasn't active on the old forum so I'm not stuck in the "trying to compare" mode...
Being in Beta means never having to say you're sorry ;)
"if you get confused..."
How about bringing back CC Joes "Name That Show" thread and the musicians "Whats Your Setup" thread. Also being able to bold type, use emos and smilies, type size, italics.
*covers head for fallout*
How demanding of me huh? *grin*
I like the new layout.
I'd suggest that the proper term should be 'baby person'
I am full of suggestions this fine day
"full of something" echos CC Joe's old lady... ) -;
(bringing the banter back)
Mea culpa, izzie, (and preemptive apology to Marye), you are a babygirl (Shit, is this ok to agree with? Or did I put my foot in the pudding again?) esp. in comparrison to this 'older than dirt' codger with 3 adult sons (youngest just graduated from high school last month. Hooray!!).
I told you that my wife said I was better, but (after 27 years married) I am still a 'work in progress'.

Here's to us all continuing to put brush to canvas and have music to fill the air.
