And floppy, if it's XXL :-)
"Just a Little Light" is the song I remember best from my first Dead gig - that keyboard "chink!" blew me away...
Thanks to Grateful Dead/Rhino Global Domination Inc. and to the hint-givers - without whom...
Man this is the first dead song I am hearing that I can't remember hearing. That Brent he was so talented. He would sing a song or two from time to time. That I remember. I am trying to remember the K&D shows. It is a blurr, Ya know I will never guess these right. I can't remember most shows. How can people remember this stuff, they must be going to the archives.
lovn the nuggems of prev. unreleased deade live hits. tysvmdl. i am so playful that i just guess anywhere on any date. carpe' fate! ha! wavyiergravier toodleoo:)
I can't think of a better song for today... 'bout time we showed Brent some of this 30 days stuff.... THANK YOU!
This one had me doin' Brent's squirm'n'twitch in-yer-seat dance!
Seriously... could these guys do any wrong on this tour?!
This is my first try at playing the game this go-around. I sure could use an XXL hoodie!
First performance: Februay 7, 1989, at the Henry J. Kaiser Auditorium in Oakland, California. "Just Little Light" appeared in the first set, following "Walking Blues" and preceding "Standing On the Moon." Final performance (of 21 total): July 21, 1990, at the World Music Theatre, Tinley Park, Illinois (Brent's third-to-last concert).
you are correct, still too few
parts of which were preserved on at least two official releases.
Dave! You are such a sweet sweet soul for doing this. I am lovin it! Especially this brent tune. ive got a couple guesses but im kinda spinnin in a wheel on a few shows. time will tell..
I was there- A fried and I were wandering around strumming our guitars, trying to score a few tickets.
We we doing a little noodling- Bertha jam then we went into I need a miracle, and There on the ground was a floor seat for the next nights show.
I still have my stubs somewhere, (and I wouldn't believe it either).
(Talked to people on both sides of the next nights seat- they picked them up from a scalper, so I didn't feel as bad)
I guess I gave a clue there.
A whale of a show!! Get it? haha.
I'd imagine that a lot of people were hung over for this show...
Though I still don't get the wizard reference! The following week, the Dead became only the second act to play at Albany's brand new Knickerbocker Arena, and I was there (Sinatra had opened the place the month before).
Love the Brent thank you so much
Few things: Today's giveaway is XXL so unless you are as big as me you might not need it .. in which case you could send it to me :))
I personally loved Brent and this song in particular. Sadly, It took off for me during Brent's last time playing this, my seat was first few rows (TY - GDTS - if I remember correctly), but the reason I mention that is because I think (and again if memory serves me) they had a little side passage on Brent side to right near the front row that went to some bathrooms that were about 50-75ft directly on other side of gates between satge area and fans. I do remember this very specifically: when walking back there was a perfect view of the stage from the side and you could see 90% of the audience as well .. and Brent was wailing Just a Little Light and Jerry was looking at him and Brent, at one point, had one hand pointed up and he was leading the band and ALL of us, The entire audience was swaying in perfect harmony and it was a beautiful sight and a awesome feeling I will never forget...and no I wasn't dosed :))
I have not submitted my guess - haven't even researched it so there are no clues here.
The voice, the keyboards, the passion..........I was mad at Brent for years because of the way he went out. Leaving his little girl, leaving the fans. I think I was hurt more by his passing than Jerry's because it was unexpected. With Jerry we waited for years for the news and when it finally came it seemed like "ok, he's at rest now.". There was sadness with Jerry's news for sure, but the news of Brent hit me like a brick in the face. I eventually got over my anger and disappointment. I now just smile and dance a little when I hear one of his tunes and know that he too is at rest. Enjoy the rest of your day folks.
dodgin' lies & wastin' time.
happy trails, brent, wherever they lead you.
Last few shows have been pretty hot and this one is too. Thanks! But I'm bias to shows from my neck of the woods. Some of Brents tunes I wasn't a fan of, but I can say the same for Jerry and Bob too. He really was something else though. In some shows Brent absolutely kills it and saves the day with passion and energy when it was clear somebody needed to step up! Thank you Brent!
The Dew from this show is my personal favorite from the era.
I noticed below someone promoting a show. So, here's my shameless plug! This show is goin down in Central Mass, it features Donna, Tom C., and Mark & Kenny from Ratdog. Check it out!
I have always been a Brent Fan. My bus ride lasted from 82-90. After Brent's death I was off the bus. It wasn't until Furthur before I got back on. Thanks Brent, RIP.
Gotta weigh in and say thanks Dave and to all concerned. RIP all our family...when I hear the music, I re-realize how much I miss every one. That makes me love them all, those with us and those departed, all the more. Brent is a wizard, egregia cum laude.
...thanks for the chance to win the hoodie! Brent in many ways was a purer form of the blues than Pig, though many will disagree.
~ Louie, Louie! We gotta go ~
I have to say that Brent's songs are my least favorite tunes the band played. Somehow his music turned the Dead into an 80s bar band, preparing a new theme song for the TV show, Miami Vice. I am, however, forever grateful for his keyboard contributions to the band from '79 on. He re-energized the Dead and added some wicked keys to songs that will never be the same without him. Just listen to any Brent-era version of Ramble On Rose and try not to be blown away. He was a keyboards virtuoso for sure.
Just a little listen at the very last one (this one is not it) and Brent's torment can really be heard. As for this one, since there were only 15, no hints here listen to all of them! gone far too soon, the band was really starting to figure this song out, I mean Albany, this one and the last one, c'mon!!! Rest in Peace brother
Oh, I guess there were a couple of hints there
.. and although I have already submitted my guess (and think I am fairly confident) I personally don't get your hint ... I haven't gotten a few before today and they made perfect sense after the answer was revealed :) .. my guess was before any of the shows you mentioned, assuming that you may be saying "this one" is between Albany and Tinley ??
this show is heat
come on guys no hints hahahaha!
I saw the first few versions, never really took off.
I remember a friend of mine saying (circa 1984) that her favorite member of the band was Brent, and I replied "I don't know any one else who has said that." Nice job, Brent.
Love it, and that Hoodie is killer to boot. Before I go on tour, I wanted to thank you for the last 17 daze of Dead!
I'll be rockin to the sounds of Bobby and Phil and Friends....but before I go, I'd like to invite all the Deadheads out to Next years 2012 Spring frolick. Every year, we get to rock out with the Allman Bros and the Deadhead Family in Florida....start planning early, you won't want to miss this one.
See you all after tour.....happy 30 daze hunting.
Thank you David and Dead.net!!!!!
wish i hadn't moved to the farthest corner of the map from there. and i'm afraid the old van would never make that trip, but it sure would be grand. something to scheme about over the winter for sure. have a good safe tour peace
- that is a pretty sweet hoodie, i want one. my old one is getting ratty and no where as cool as that one.
hey, CC, happy trails and great shows (~);-}
I'll see you at Rosemont!
We'll be arriving at the lot probably 4:30ish!
Are you going to be able to catch the last 4 shows?
well, this game is a LOT harder when we don't have archive.org to access. i haven't been able to get in all (Wed) evening.
anyway, it sure is good to get such a sweet taste of Brent. now to dig thru my own files; maybe i've got this one already and don't know it ....
seems like a 1990 version... dig it and thanks Dave....
I hear 2 drummers in this one! Eenie meenie miney moe, which of the few shows could it be from? I saw Brent sing Little Light in Bonner Springs and Tinley Park during the summer of 1990, but I think this song is from a concert furthur east.
... much further east, as far east as it went ;)
