    Bird Song
A most beautiful of recordings. Birds chirping added in to the song really made a difference on how I perceived the music. Never heard this done by the Dead before and started seeing them in '87. It's almost like acquiring a taste for fine wine-but that's the easy part! Thanks Dead.net for something new!

    Box Of Rain
Love it. Let Phil Sing! Got to see a BOR show opener on a rainy day in Silver Stadium, Rochester, NY, 06/30/88. And then it goes into Visions of Johanna, which I remember clearly from my last show at Tampa Stadium, 04/07/95. Last show of Spring Tour '95. Jerry made it through one more summer tour. It is ironic that the 80's boards are not as crisp as Bear's or Betty's reels (condensing the story here), but perhaps that just reflects the tragedy and trajectory of a shooting star. Or is a comet a better metaphor? These folks (band members and community) keep circling back to bring joy, year after year. If you get confused, listen to the music play...

Well recorded and somewhat underrated...albeit off-kilter at times. The clip presented here is quite suitable for headphone listening. The repeat toggle is a nice touch as well. Thanks Dead.net!

Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have some terrific music spanning nine years in Grateful Dead history, with tunes from 1977, 1978 and 1986.

Our first stop this week is from the first show of what’s widely considered one of the finest tours in Grateful Dead history, with the first notes of the lengthy trip across the east coast and Midwest, featuring Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo, Looks Like Rain, Deal, El Paso, Tennessee Jed, Estimated Prophet, Peggy-O from 4/22/77 at the Philadelphia Spectrum.

From a year later in the same state, from 4/18/78 in Pittsburgh, we have the start of the show from New Minglewood Blues, Sugaree, Looks Like Rain, Dire Wolf.

Lastly this week is the entire first set from 4/22/86 in Berkeley, featuring Box Of Rain ; Visions Of Johanna ; Mama Tried ; Big River ; Bird Song ; Little Red Rooster ; Deal. This is the first Bay Area Box Of Rain since the Kezar show on 5/26/73, and even on this board tape you can hear the crowd reaction.

Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
