Road Trips: Volume 1 - Number 1

This two-disc set was culled from the Dead’s blazing fall 1979 East Coast swing, when the band was just hitting its stride with new keyboardist Brent Mydland. You’ll find killer versions of “Dancing in the Street” > “Franklin’s Tower,” long exploratory jams on “Playing in the Band” and “Terrapin,” a rattle-your-brain “Shakedown,” and lots more, all pulled from the master tapes in the vault and expertly mastered in HDCD for maximum power and clarity by Jeffrey Norman. The Bonus Disc, which offered another hour-and-a-quarter of highlights from the tour, has been sold out.

waste....

you guys should know by now that deadheads don't want chopped releases. we won't whole shows, runs etc; To me this just doesn't make much sense. gettung rid of dick's picks for this!?!!!???

Chopped?

Please release full shows, not chopped segments.

Signed,

Everybody.

This is a great idea

This is a very clever idea for a series of releases. Not all Dead fans are into the stem-winding improv jams. I love this idea for a series and will be much more likely to buy these compilations than I would want to buy any more full shows. For Christ's sakes, how many full shows do I need in my collection that I can't get somehow?

Saw an interview with Garcia on iTunes where he said they only thought about 25% of their live music was any good. That may be an exaggeration on his part, but still...

Thanks for breathing new life into the recorded output. I am looking forward to more.

I love this concept!

I have hundreds and hundreds of whole shows in good quality. I don't need that many more. This idea of tight compilations from specific tours will, in all likelihood, increase the possibility that I buy this and future official releases.

How 'Bout Red Rocks?

If compilations are the way you're going for now, how about a killer one from Red Rocks shows over the years?

As someone who grew up only miles from the place, and saw every show from July 7, 1978, on, I can testify to the fact that there were many special moments that transpired on The Rocks. I say release some.

I'll buy...

Road Trips

What a ripoff!!! This disc is culled from 6 epic shows. Why not release them all in their entirety??? Dix Pix would have for sure. How sad.

Bravo Evan....Couldn't have said it better myself.

You almost have to try to screw this up, but Rhino seems to be doing just that IMHO. I am just waiting to open my wallet and buy...but you have to offer what you consumer wants. I would have thought Rhino would have figured this out by now.

Complete Shows

Please release 5/12/77, 4/22/78, 5/12/80, and 5/31/80 in their entirety, and we will be much happier.

compilations

I just bought this one, though I'm a bit skeptical of compilations, in general. I'm just excited to see some new live Dead being released, so I couldn't help myself.

One thing, though: I don't see a release date anywhere. Is it shipping now?
