Road Trips: Volume 1 - Number 1

This two-disc set was culled from the Dead’s blazing fall 1979 East Coast swing, when the band was just hitting its stride with new keyboardist Brent Mydland. You’ll find killer versions of “Dancing in the Street” > “Franklin’s Tower,” long exploratory jams on “Playing in the Band” and “Terrapin,” a rattle-your-brain “Shakedown,” and lots more, all pulled from the master tapes in the vault and expertly mastered in HDCD for maximum power and clarity by Jeffrey Norman. The Bonus Disc, which offered another hour-and-a-quarter of highlights from the tour, has been sold out.

I really look forward to this. I think its a great idea. I just hope you will ship it to APO/FPO addresses.

Interesting concept

I like the concept. I _do_ appreciate the 'whole show' argument but this 'road trip' idea is an interesting concept.

My 18th birthday spent at Cape Cod. I remember it well....sort of. Great time, great people and another fun show. Road trips were the best. Would love to see this concert!

Thumbs Down

The last thing anybody wants are more compilations!!!!! Not only do the people making the choices seem to miss the good stuff, or butcher things so they're unbearable. But this probrably means the whole show won't be relased somewhere down the line. Like Mr. Hunt asks who is giving the advice here? The one hope from getting the vault out of the hands of GD Inc. was that things like this might stop!!!! Check Out My Orignal Music at myspace.com/salaversano

Downloads

I guess this is the Taper's Section concept has made its way to the market, and is finally going up for sale ... hey, why not?

Quick question: can't you guys offer a download option instead of the cd's only? And of course I would add that the download option would need to include the bonus material for a limited time, as well.

But it looks good. I will, however, need to get this one by cd's through the mail. But please, in the future, downloads.

No Cape Cod, But We Get The Epic 11/6/79!

I have been preaching the value of the Fall 1979 tour for YEARS. I'm THRILLED to see this compilation of that era come out, especially given that the Terrapin > Playin' are from my favorite show of all time, Philly 11/6/79 (go to that show here on dead.net and read my review of it).

I do wonder why nothing from Cape Cod was included on this.. maybe they thought Phil's intro bomb from The Other One would kill lots of speakers? :) Even that evening's Dancin' > Franklins, P.A. glitches and all, should have been considered. I'd wager it was.

Full shows will still be released, it says, so I'm taking them at their word. The trading circles are still pumping out high-quality renditions of the soundboards in circulation. I've been collecting for 25 years and have more shows than I can swing a dead cat at, so I think the compilation concept has significant merit. I may not want to listen to an entire show, but the highlights from an era is appealing to me.

Glad to see some Fall 1979 get out of the vault. Thanks, Mr. Lemieux!

What a joke!!! How can you ruin these epic shows by butchering them up and not offering each one of them in thei entirety????? Dick must be turning over in his grave. I just hope you still have the list of shows Dick left behind for future releases.

I'm just mad about my post being scraped off the road so here's my road block. Realplayer 11 will let you download any web video and audio streams except for quicktime but it's a beta. you'll not have to be collaberating with thing 1 and thing 2 relying on the cat in the hat's advice. taper's section it automatically records the stream one at a time. This is for your ipod/zune/playforsure mp3 player. just copy. Judo chop.

Input

I have to agree with most that the bits and pieces will not be well received. I like the concept of "tours" but I would rather see the 2-4 best shows from that tour released. I've always thought both Philly shows from this tour would make an exceptional release. Or make it 3 shows with Cap Centre or Buffalo as the other.

I agree 100% with Evan! It is about the whole shows that made the experience. I've tried making my own live comps and it never sounds as good as, at the very least, at least one whole set! Please rethink and perhaps put out CD's with a WHOLE TOUR! People would LOVE that! Plus, evan is correct with the statement about all the film that is sitting around from all those great tours where they were filming each show in the late eighties and early nineties! There has got to be diamonds out there in the collection! PLEASE RETHINK!
